Oh it’s you again. Here, have a Grim Misadventure. Last time, we hit the 200th dev update milestone and unveiled some of the glorious Legendary sets coming in Fangs of Asterkarn. Today, with the High Chieftain’s blessing, we are throwing open the gates of Kurnhold. Such a decision was not made lightly. The Kurn people are forbidden from traveling north due to the ever present threat of the Bloodbound. The wounds of past conflicts are still fresh here, a reminder of all that was lost. Nowhere is this pain more apparent than in the Ruins of Utak Kunar, a once thriving Kurn settlement. Wights, fallen warriors denied their final rites, now shuffle mindlessly among the bones of devastated homes and shops.
Beyond the ruins lie the Dread Wastes, a once verdant land completely overtaken by the Great Annihilator’s influence. This is the heart of the enemy’s power, where they muster their forces before raiding nearby settlements to gather sacrifices for their grisly blood rituals. The very air here swells with void energies as new tears in reality are formed, granting Chthonian horrors entry into the world of Cairn. Unless these breaches are sealed, the Bloodbound will have limitless reinforcements with which to whittle down the Kurn defenders.
Should you make it through this desolate land alive, the gates of Tamarog, the Black Citadel, still stand between you and the sacred mountains. In better days, the stronghold welcomed pilgrims on their way to the Aurora Peaks. Today, the stench of blood and the screams of still living sacrifices are your only invitation. Ascending to the Roof of the World was once a proud tradition and a rite of passage for young and pious Kurn. There, among the auroras, the Kurn could feel closer to their many gods, the breath of Amatok filling their lungs with its chill. No such journeys are permitted so long as the Bloodbound have a chokehold on the passage.
They say history does not repeat, but it often rhymes. Your journey in Asterkarn will culminate atop An’Shalar, the Roof of the World. But what brings you there, and why it is so important will be for you to discover for yourself in the coming months.
