Grim Misadventure #202 - Asterkarn Cartography

I can’t believe it’s a Grim Misadventure.

Last time, we opened the gates of Kurnhold and ventured beyond into the domain of the Bloodbound. Today, we share the culmination of this journey. The team is polishing all that awaits you, and by the witch gods, is there a lot. By our final tally, this is how Fangs of Asterkarn, on release, will compare to Grim Dawn’s past expansions, post-release updates included. This is not even including our plans for two announced roguelike dungeons, and more!

The world you will have the opportunity to explore has grown by over 32%. With Ascendant Mode, every area will be teeming with new challenges and rewards.

Let us put things into perspective. Here is the complete Grim Dawn world map.

We understand all the frustration that 3 years of waiting generated, but once you dive in, we hope it will be worth it. There is a tremendous amount of content here, at a quality bar we like to think is higher than Grim Dawn has ever had. We have developed new skill tech for players and bosses, new shader tech, with more custom environment art, item art, and animations than the team was ever able to generate before. The Soundtrack, for the very first time, was recorded by a live orchestra. V1.3.0, the free update currently in public playtesting that will release alongside the expansion, features a UI overhaul, a massively upgraded Stash, WASD controls, Detailed Item Tooltips, HDR lighting, and much more.

And it’s all nearly here. I dread to be that guy announcing an announcement, but if everything goes according to plan, you will know the release date by the end of May with our gameplay trailer.

With that said, we are nearing the finish line. The rest of what the expansion has in store, you will have to uncover for yourselves!

Grim Misadventures are taking a break and will resume on September 14th to give you a first look at post-release content!

Totally worth the wait considering how massive the expansion will be. Keep up the great work Crate.

Wait, wait, wait, ignoring the mammoth sized drop of info above (that sq.km keeps rising every time it’s mentioned) - have I missed something about the playset, I don’t remember anything about WASD besides the mention that it’s not planned because the game has not been designed with it in mind.

Is it true :open_mouth:

KYZOGGIES

Everything looks absolutely incredible.

I didn’t feel any frustration in the past 3 years , because I was too busy playing Grim Dawn.

I hope the Xpack is a smashing financial success . I hope 2-3 years after release Crate will share some pictures of having a party on the newly bought 100-meter superyacht.

You guys deserve it.

So it’s gonna release before this date

It all looks beautiful! The FoA expansion, which is almost as big as the base game, is impressive.

PTR changelog hasn’t been updated in a while, likely because they were cooking a bunch of fixes from the reported issues.
Game not being designed with wasd in mind was a mention in the Elephant “poll” to curb people’s expectation vs understanding of not getting true wasd/no PoE2 style wasd, but that any possible implementation would be “pseudo” wasd/controller scheme movement.

I really need to know, will we have a better balanced Ultimate difficulty for new character ? Lets say i only wanna do a single playthrough? The amount of content will be huge now, and having to play it 3 times seems insane

tomorrow cometh

I have been playing this game since Beta. I think part of what makes Grim Dawn so great is that you take the time to polish the content, unlike many other companies. Thank you so much for this great game!

you don’t have to play it 3x, you haven’t had to do that for years. Merit tokens exists that lets you start in Ult as level 1 if you so desire (or when you feel ready at X level/prep stage)
Even without FG players have for a while been able to skip straight to Ult just after beating basegame boss

Huge thanks for the clarification.
It will nonetheless help immensely with the Steam Controller(OG and New) control scheme I’m working on to try to remedy controller’s lack of precision / ability to choose far away targets for mobility and other abilities.

nice, still composed by skewsound?

get out of act 1!

I think starting in Ultimate will be as hard as ever. You only have to play Normal and Ult though. There’s no need to touch Elite unless you want to.

It won’t be for lack of trying :frowning:

Always looking forward to it. Luckily the end of May is fast approaching. So don’t have to wait too much longer with a date. :crossed_fingers:
