Looking for Werewolf advice

Hi all, long time player, first time poster (though I still feel like a newb sometimes with all this game has to offer!). Just got Fangs and I’m trying out a basic melee werewolf build; getting the shapechange skill, Amatok’s Pact, etc. Trying to decide on my eventual second mastery. At the moment, I’m torn between Soldier for the passives, or Shaman for lore, passives and Wendigo Totem, though I’m open to other suggestions.

Also, do you get more DPS in werewolf form by using a 2-handed weapon, or dual-wielding? I have a green 2-hander at the moment.

I can’t find my save file to upload it (I have the game on GOG, not Steam), but I’m level 36.

I went with a dual wield more straight bleed. Using leap to jump into packs and blowing them up . Warcries helping a lot. Went with Nightblade for more bleed damage. At level 77 and clearing pretty well in Ultimate.

I’m in about the same spot as you so I’m not going to offer any definitive guidance. But I’m also looking for Werewolf advice myself so I shall share my experience and hope some more people reply!

I chose an Occultist as my second mastery because it has both bleed and chaos synergy and I never clicked with Nightblade or Soldier. Not sure I’d recommend it for leveling though. Currently I just made it to act three with a bleed focused build but it’s been a struggle and I’ve died more than I’d like.

Mostly a skill issue I think, I’ve got plenty of adcth but not enough of the basic defence layers. There’s also no circuit breakers in the devotion paths to the major bleed nodes, so I’ve been getting 1 shot occasionally by bosses I don’t have full resistances for. But I don’t remember struggling this much last time I played.

I’m on the hunt for Chaos gear and then I’ll switch over and see if that feels better.

Endgame’s a long way off, but planning things on grimtools is half the fun sometimes. There’s a set for Berserker/Occultists that’s not released yet called the Wake of the Crimson Moon. It seems ideal for a bleed Werewolf but I’ve got no idea when it’s coming, so I’ll make do.

I’m going to be watching this thread, since I made a berserker/occultist chaos werewolf. I’m still in Normal, finished the base game (Loghorrean) and FG (Korvaak) and started FoA. So far it’s going well enough, but I still think it’s a little too fragile, since it’s not up to task in the roguelike dungeons.

I hope someone with more levels in theory/buildcrafting shares their observations.

I’m having a pretty good time just going pure werewolf for now, but I’m not that far into the game in the new patch. Made the choice to actually run through the base game leveling with just an xp boost potion and lorkarr set doing all the quests again as opposed to running around hunting down lore notes.
I think what is being slept on is Crit and on Crit effects. Also, I treat the werewolf as a rush down character but not a tank. Spamming Leap, Rip and Tear, and rift tear(just personal preference to not get stuck) to close the distance on groups of enemies, also spamming both Rallying Cry and Bonechilling cry. Trying to keep up speed and -enemy resists as much as possible. You cannot just face-tank tougher enemies though, it’s similar to a blitz warlord but squishy where sometimes you need to evade away, and close the distance back in again with a rip and tear or leap. Good Aoe and good single target damage.

  • So far I’m prioritizing Pierce, not bleed. Crit Damage and trying to stay at a decent crit chance level.
-Attack Speed, max attack speed, total speed, and movement speed. It feels nicer to rush down when you’re trying to be maxed out on speed, also means more frequent crits and more frequent on crit effects.
-Dual wielding for now, made the choice entirely for the Cry cooldown reduction. Found one handers with “Untamed Fang” suffix which REALLY helps, not even close to set on end game gear but I’m looking at Unseeing Eye set as a placeholder.
-Using Lorkarr set, but if I wasn’t it’s the usual green’s to maximize resists, health/oa/da, and when possible some useful +skills that you actually use. Like Murderer’s Epaulets +3 werewolf.
-Devotions, I rushed Turtle, and I’m still deciding on what more safety devotions I want as survivability is always on the edge. End game I want to make it to Eye of Korvaak for that 100% on crit effect, but I’m not ruling out Living Shadow or Shifting Sands just yet. Assassin’s Mark is an early option too.

A Lot of this will probably change near end game but the core concept is Crit, Speed, Pierce with some bleed support, -enemy pierce res, Circuit breakers/safeties because you need em! Rip and Tear cooldown & Untamed Rage Cooldown.

Undead are easily the biggest threat so far because so much of our healing is in life leech, all my deaths have been to undead so far.

I have leveled as “chaos werewolf” and described my process in this “Ice King” build thread towards the end.

(No need for “Kraken” devotion for you as i was going with 2Handers. Your 1Handers are fine, but you can go 2Hand anytime if you happen to get a good weapon. Or refarm new 1Handers with higher level.)

My Recommendations:

You could skill earlier towards “Possession” from Occu giving you flat chaos and dmg absorption.
To cut it short… here the Grimtool with changes i made.

Go first for “Abomination” before reaching out to “Dying God”
Ghoul is a must as “circuit breaker”
Behemoth fits also in there as well

Should feel much tankier this way.

(You hadnt skilled “Untamed Rage”. Its a “1 point wonder”. No need to max “Form of the Beast” that early without profiting from the raised caps. Swapped points around. Go max Possession first)

Looking for advice too. But I want a pure melee bleeding build. I’m still a noob on GD and loving the game.

In the same boat.

I switched to a Poison-focused Wearaven Mystic. I farmed for a decent Rift Slicer and a Putrid Necklace to enable this.

I couldn’t get Chaos Wearwolf to work during the leveling stage. I will say that it’s mostly a “Me” issue. I’m coming back to the game after nearly 5 years. So I’m exploring every inch, including tougher than usual areas since they’re completely new to me. I’ve observed that I only struggle in Dangerous Domains. Specifically to bosses with damage types I had very little resistance to.

That being said, I have no interest in going back to Werewolf since I’m melting things rather easily. I still have poor resistances, but I’m a lot more comfortable with a DoT build. I think Werewolf can easily work, I’m just not feeling inclined to spend too much time figuring things out. I want to explore every inch of the base game + expacs before I hit FoA content.

I am trying to figure out a poison werewolf build utilizing the new Sylvarria’s Thorn amulet that converts all your pierce damage into acid/poison (and colors the werewolf to look like a plaguewolf). However I am relatively new at all of this and could use some advice as well. I do know that I am going to go for a Reaver build (beserker+nightblade).

Go necro instead and do my build

You really need to share your build with Grimtool

Search for your save game folder and find /saves/main/“charactername”/player.gdc to upload your file. Then click the share button to get a link you can post here

You can choose whatever classes you like most. Every class-combo should work and have items supporting it. You can choose your second class much later too, shouldnt be a big deal to postpone

Does anybody know, will Fenris set recolor werewolf into white fur?

I used GDStash to test out that very question and from what I saw it did not. I think it SHOULD have but sadly it didn’t. Maybe its a bug in my game but I for one would think that it would have done that…

BRB, need to update GDstash to rename my reaver.

Literally unplayable.

now, that being said there is a mod out on Nexus Mods that can change your fur to white/blue. It’s only cosmetic as far as I can see so if you dont mind modding the game…you could do that. I think its called “Werewolf wereraven colors”. No VFX though.

Here is how “Ice King” set looks like, its more greyish
(waited for idle animation to get that funny pose)

edit: @Wolfboy1 actually wanted to post it in your thread, but it seems you are everywhere and it landed here lol

I happen to be omnipotent lol. Sorry about that.

How far is your “Reaver” level wise? Already started or still theory-crafting?

He’s currently sitting at lvl 26. He’s fun so far but itemization wise @GIJW brought up a interesting alternative to go Necro instead of Nightblade. He even gave me a build to go off of (because I SUCK at making builds). I might switch to that instead.

Try it out, everything open at that low of a level. You could even level single mastery for a while and then make a backup save to try both masteries out
