Loot simulations, duplicates, restarting sessions

I’ve read that if you don’t restart the game and continue your Grim Dawn sessions, you won’t get duplicates in this session. I wondered how it influences the time after you collect certain % of all the items and made some simulations.

Suppose there are 5000 items and you get 50 per some unit of time, let’s call it a ‘day’. Therefore, if you keep playing the same session (campaign + restarting SR I guess?), you’ll get

  • 100% of the items after 5000/50 = 100 days
  • 90% of the items after 90 days
  • 80% of the items after 80 days
  • 50% of the items after 50 days

Now let’s suppose we turn off the game every day so items are unique only during one day and completely random otherwise. I made some simulation and the results are:

  • 100% of the items after 800 - 1000 days -> 8 - 10 times more days needed
  • 90% of the items after about 220 days -> 220/90 = 2.44 times more days needed
  • 80% of the items after about 160 days -> 160/80 = 2 times more days needed
  • 50% of the items after about 70 days -> 70/50 = 1.4 times more days needed

If this simulation and numbers match reality, you can see that getting those last items can be extremely time-consuming if you reset your sessions and don’t commit to longer one.
