Hi! It would be nice for minimap to be able to rotate. I know that the cam indicator on the minimap shows which direction I’m looking in, but it would be slightly easier to navigate the map (at least for me) if we could switch from rotating indicator to rotating map. For a bonus, there could also be an indicator for the north direction on the minimap since it would prevent players using rotating map to be lost on directions.
Big map toggle. I suppose I don’t have to explain that. Just a possibility to show bigger map of the region. The map could be static, without rotating function, the way it works in other games.
Another utility I’d like to see for the minimap/map is resource location overlay. Some resources, especially clay and sand, are hard to locate. I know that they’re highlighted when building the corresponding mine but still I think it would be easier to find their location if we could see them on the minimap/map.
I assume you already know about using your WASD on keyboard ( like you would to walk around on RPG's ) to scroll the map back and forth. ( So much smoother than using the mouse, especially if you have an open box on your screen and need to move the map under it ). If you use the Q and E, the map will spin - both clockwise or counter, respectively. I always spin it back to whatever orientation it was when my town center landed to keep track of things like "the farms are to the left of town center, the lake is to the right", etc. For me, whatever is at the top of my screen when my town center lands feels like North, and I just go with it from there.
Dude, I’m not talking about moving a camera through the world, but about a world map you can open and browse much the same way as the minimap, but greater in scale. That way, looking at the whole region at once, you can scout the map much faster than moving around the world with WASD. Same as with RPGs, if you really wanna stay in that comparison, there’s a world and a world map.
As of your great advice on rotating, I just said above that for some people it’s easier to orientate themself when the minmap rotates with the camera. And I doubt adding a simple marker of ‘N’ for the north to the minimap is that much of a hassle.
And please, don’t use that code feature, or whatever it is that doesn’t wrap the text, as reading it that way is a bit of a pain in the ass.
Well, more or less… I mean, I’d like to see the minimap, with the same functionality in terms of overlays, but bigger. With this app you get the image of the whole map right away and it doesn’t consider structures you build, at least that’s what I presume. And it’s third-party, not integrated into the game.
