[MOD] Journal multi-page numbers and section numbers

What it do:

  • Shows numbers in the bottom right corner if a note is a part of a multi-page journal and how many notes total of this journal are in Grim Dawn. (Check the bottom right corner)

  • Additionally also adds a number to the note sections showing how many notes total of this section there are in Grim Dawn.

This is for the lore-people that want to complete their collections

Installation:
No need to use any actual mods to play the game, you can use it with any old characters.
Download the following file and extract it into your Grim Dawn folder (in steam click game’s cogwheel → Manage → Browse local files):
journalnumbers_1.2.1.6.zip (196.3 KB)
(Alternatively you can also extract them into your documents/mygames/ folder inside your windows user folder.)

If you only want the multi-page count without the section numbers, either remove _ui.txt files from the zip or just download this file instead:
journalnumbersPO_1.2.1.6.zip (160.6 KB)

Outdated (working on): If you are using also my Faction goods-infos mod, you can download this file here which includes both together:
factions_goodsinfos_plus_journalnumbers.zip (203.1 KB)

Compatibility-Issues and other Notes:
Be aware that the mod is not compatible with any mods that change the same files. If it asks you to overwrite something when extracting, you already have something there which uses the same.

Also the mod is only available for the standard English-version.

If one of these is your issue (such as when you have custom translation files made by the Rainbow-Filter mod), you can edit the files yourself and add the changes I did to them. See which files I added in the zip, these are the ones you need to change in the incompatible mod or translation.
Here is a detailed explanation:
If the “_storyelements” text-files get overwritten, just open them in a text-editor like Notepad and search for the “#Journals” line in the files from me, and copy all the lines up until the “#Guards” line. Replace the same lines in the files of the other mod you have already installed with these.
If the “_ui” text-files get overwritten, just search for the “tagCodexJournalSubHeading” lines under “#Quest” in the files from me, and copy all the lines that have those at the start. Replace the same lines in the files of the other mod you have already installed with these.

If you want to change your own localization or other languages, you will need to extract the game files, see the modding guide for details, Translations are then in the resources/ folder, copy them, merge them with mine, and add them to the settings/ folder.

Could you please post the relevant text you modified based on 1.2.1.6 h1 here? Thank you.

Oh, wait, it seems to still work just putting the text_EN into a settings/ folder?
If that’s the case and I didn’t mess sth up here then there’s no problem anyways and it should work same as before, once I updated the files.

Yes, your method works.

Yeah just confirmed, even old method of putting it into the documents/mygames/ still works.

Sorry for wasting your time, I could have sworn it didn’t work at first, I must have confused something.

I think it should be placed in Grim Dawn\Settings\Text_EN\*.txt instead of documents/mygames/ for more direct access.

I like it in mygames because it keeps the game folder clean. But it’s up to the user.

I just compared your new text with the previous 1.1.9.0 text related to multiple page and chapter numbers, and found that the numbers are exactly the same. Have you confirmed that they have been verified?

They aren’t for me. Have you downloaded the new files? those end with the versionnumber now, should be “journalnumbers_1.2.1.6.zip”

Oh, the one I downloaded here might not be the latest. I’ll download it again.

You may need to refresh the site.
Should look like this now:

Oh, download them from the OG post!

Yes, I downloaded it at the top of the post. Thank you.

I found an error:
tags_storyelements.txt
957: tagLoreObj_BookC02Text=To reinforce the ingenuity of arcanists both living and dead, we turn to the works of Master Maiven, a prolific arcanist from the third age of our glorious empire. Master Maiven was able to bend the inherently destructive flows of the Aether to her will in order to manifest a protective barrier around herself. This technique is a stellar example of how the Gildam Arcanum continually strives to break our preconceptions of the Aether, creating entirely new schools of thought within the arcane arts.{^n}{^n} (1/2)

It should be (2/2) :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Entirely correct!
Should be fixed now.
You have a keen eye

Haha~ I stumbled upon it while comparing the Chinese translation.

Also, have these two texts remained unchanged since 2020?

Those had no changes, correct.
