[Mod] Reign of Terror

Really depends on the damage type you go for. Multiple shot only does 50% weapon damage, so viper works for only half its value (so 10%), which will only lead to about 3-7% actual elemental resistance reduction. Multiple shot itself does a lot of piercing damage, so you have no benefit for that at all unless you convert piercing to cold/elemental.

In short: viper is rarely a priority devotion. Murmur/Widow/assassins blade are.

If you say you rarely use the hydra, how much elemental damage do you still deal then? Sounds like viper is even more useless to you.

… it’s nice to have someone here whose tips can really help! :grinning:

Besides, the Assassin Blades and the Assassin fit very well with Multi Shot, and since I’ll probably have to fall back on my Lightning Hydra more often in Hell at the latest, I’ll implement your recommendations, even if the prerequisites for Widow and Murmur have to be met first …

It’s unbelievable how good this mod is! After spending 50 hours in D2 Resurrected Beta, I ditched it and got a refund. I’d much rather support Crate and GD Modders who can do such a great job!
In all honesty, and trust me I tried really hard, being an old time D2 veteran, but I simply couldn’t find a single reason to spend time in D2R. The only thing they did was graphics wrapper, no QoL changes, not even stackable gems and runes. They removed TCP/IP, refused to add instanced loot and killed off modding.

Back to RoT, this mod is what D2 remake should have been! Perfect merge of modern aRPG features and quality of life with the old, dark and challenging world. The mod offers some secrets and super bosses which is both refreshing and punishing! I love the challenges! Even the treasure goblins exist in this mod! That’s just awesome! Big Kudos for the amazing work!

… I took part in the Diablo 2: Ressurected open beta and was also disappointed!

And this is coming from someone who played Diablo2 LoD Hardcore for many years. But nowadays it’s simply not enough to just present improved graphics and a higher resolution, but otherwise leave everything the same.
After all, Diablo 2 is over 20 years old, so a few changes would have helped. And when I think of those puny chests, I feel like throwing up again - that always annoyed me before, but now it’s just crap!

RoT is a completely different calibre. What they’ve put together there is really awesome, and then everything for free. I’m really impressed, and if it were now possible to equip the mercenaries as well, the game would be almost perfect …

This is a master piece.Yes mercs can’t be equipped but that is the limitation of the enfine rather than the dev.I would love to have merc equipable but hey it is what it is.I am not interested in D@R as i heard it’s not the same team thats working on it…That…no mod support…and it’s not close to the level of D2 LoD.It’s the same shirt just in a different color.

I just wish i have some more time to play.I am at act 1 last tele  .Highest i went was act 4 till i got busy and i lost my save game when my pc crashed.I had all my save games saved cept for RoT :unamused:

They removed TCP/IP so no LAN, no private servers, mods like Median XL that require their own server are out of the question. Online is either Battle.net or not at all.

I’ve just reached Hell with my first character - Oathkeeper lol
After getting rekt a few times in Normal+, had to slow down and adopt a more defensive approach. No RIPs in Nightmare but you gotta be very careful about those debuff synergies as I had my resists lowered from 75 + overcap all the way to zero at times. Gotta love the punishing aspects of Grim Dawn, makes the whole journey a lot more vivid and vibrant! Back to Hell!

Quick question. What about rune drop rates? Are those similar to D2? For instance, do I have to farm level 81-85 mobs to have a chance of seeing Vex+?

Diablo II:Resurrected may be dead to many of you. I seem to have mentioned it alot and sidetracked the thread, so I thought I’d mention it one more time but with hope toward the original Diablo 2. This program creates an entirely different renderer for about 100 different old games, mostly strategy/RTS games, and even Interstate '76 which I still remember to this day!

Diablo 2 is not dead in it’s original form. If you look at the new Median patch notes it gives further instructions on installation. I confirmed it is able to work with LoD 1.10f which alot of mods run off of. On my 1.13 version it was a struggle to get it to work with D2SE which runs like a hundred different mods, but it eventually did. I found what actually works is setting the settings you want for a particular mod and planting the Direct Draw files from this program into the mod itself. It is then able to override D2SE without odd video behavior like shaking I was experiencing before I got it to work.

Right now I have Back to Hellfire and Eastern Sun running. Median is a piece of cake but you can’t currently use the launcher with it until they release a patch.

In my opinion the best filter it allows you to use is called ā€œnoblend.ā€ It looks bad without 4x DSR and full smoothness and sharpening on an nvidia video card. That gives it a more remastered look as I did with Wolfenstein 3D on the GzDoom forum (Called Wolf 3D HD under sound and audio projects, currently working on Doom and haven’t posted it). The best filter without DSR could be the simple bilinear and moreso cubic.

With the right settings this program is revolutionary! I’d say it’s easily 2x as good as the glide wrapper that uses Open GL from the past. This one is new, that one was ancient. It’s MUCH clearer and allows a WIDE degree of freedom to get the visual style you want! Particularly if you have the proper hardware to use more extreme settings as usual.

But the question for me, despite being very excited about these announcements, is why exactly I want to play D2 even with these great modifications, when I have this Grim Dawn mod right here, Reign of Terror?

Haha, good question. Maybe nostalgia? I started playing D2 at launch in the fall of 2000 right after spending 1k+ hours in D1. Then 1.10-1.13 gave us the runes and modding gave us PlugY!

Alas, came D3 and all that hype overshadowed Grim Dawn which was very young at that time. It took me a long time to realize that the best evolution of D2 already existed and it wasn’t PoE or D3.

I’m farming Act I hell now with a lvl 69 oathkeeper, killing stray treasure goblins (hard as hell) and looking for my first Vex to complete the Oak mace. Man this mod is not a mod, is a full remaster of the best of D2 legacy paired with amazing Grim Dawn universe. I really can’t even imagine a better synergy at every possible level. My only regret is that so much time wasted trying other things like beta D2R. Never again.

It’s scary that it was quite good even when I first started playing (a year ago?) and a ton more features have been added! What’s funny is the ARPG news channel Rhykker was talking about how some players wanted Blizzard to create an Act 6 for D2R. Where’d they get that idea? LAUGHTER

The funny thing is, if D2:R got mods, and I liked what I saw, I’d buy it. Blizzard needs to consider this, LOL.

I’ve already played D2 alot over the years, more than enough, but you are right I may play it some simply for nostalgia. But this mod gives me that feeling too. And there’s other ARPG’s I’ll play in the future. Bought Wolcen in beta on the cheap and waiting for it and another to be finished (the other is also a small team) so I have little time for D2 in the future, it no longer fits. Unless I play this mod to give it relevance again.

HOWEVER, Median is shaping up to be really great and I may play that! I prefer enhancing Diablo and not TC’s, why I never played it past level 20 ten years ago.

Because of my graphics projects and losing interest in gaming lately, I still haven’t finished Act 6 of this mod!

Same here, I think lvl 20 was best effort as well haha. Played Median quite a bit and loved it!

Just in case if you don’t know what is it all about, I won’t spoil it. Let’s just say it’s icing on this cake

No nothing like the original, they drop much more often and sooner as well. Easiest way to find them is killing world bosses, ubers and goblins.

… Contragor already got to the point - Reign of Terror is the better Diablo 2 LoD! And then you mustn’t forget that Blizzard wants just under EUR 40 for its game, while the mod RoT is completely free.

After Sacred, which I played for almost 4,000 hours in 4 years (exclusively HC), Diablo 2 LoD was the game with the most playing hours until today. But 20 years is a long time, even for a hardcore gamer, and now, at 65, I am no longer the gamer I was back then.

Nevertheless, I have already played 105 hours in 32 days with my Lev. 63 Nephalem Wizzard, and I am currently in Nightmare Act 2, having played through all 6 acts on NORMAL and also having completely emptied the cow level twice … :innocent:

This is great! Hope the runes aren’t too common though. Just got my first Vex while speedfarming NM Countess. Heart of the Oak is great! +30k dps instantly lol.

Yeah, they want 40 EUR for a graphics wrapper with ZERO changes. No quality of life, TCP/IP gone, no PlugY, - terrible decisions. I can feel the newbies’ pain lol trying to manage the tiny inventory. This is going to be bad.

That’s awesome! I’m very curious to compare the D2 classes/builds to GD ones in this mod when it comes to endgame content. So far, my EoR OK has had zero hiccups all the way to Hell fully facetanking most situations except for early normal+, when gear was still lagging. 130k sheet dps is not bad even though Baal NM has 25mln HP lol

… I’ve actually only played Diablo 2 builds so far, but of course it’s great that I can upgrade the Amazon with the Sorceress, which of course wasn’t possible in Diablo 2 LoD!

This creates the Nethalem Wizzard, who cleans up quite nicely with Multi Shot, a tuned Burriza and 3 Lev. 22 Lightning Hydras - was even enough for the world boss in Nightmare, who was dwelling in the catacombs in Act 1.

And the fact that I started with Amazon and Sorceress is probably primarily because those were my favourite chars in Diablo 2 LoD … :grinning:

Even though countess has her guaranteed runedrops, having a vex on nm is very lucky. I wouldnt even recommend farming her on Hell, but rather just stick to the easier worldbosses or zones with high monster density (chaos sanctuary, ancient tunnels, frozen river, level14-16 etc).

Yes, when I played through nightmare completely awhile back I noticed you can get SUPER lucky rune drops in Nightmare that don’t repeat. But once you get to Hell that changes and it’s more a normal formula of more consistent rune drops.

Paladin/Sorceress combos with other classes and with each other is so powerfully potent it’s hard to get myself to play builds without these classes. however, having Grim Dawn classes gives more possibilities for synergy which can be pretty damn fun and it still feels like Diablo if you focus on those particular skills instead from Diablo classes. I was using Shaman for defense on one character as I felt it more effective than another classes defense.

Yeah, I can definitely see that now, having spent a few hours farming mob dense NM areas. Nothing else dropped except a Pul. But now my dps and toughness are ok for slow Hell grind, 20mln HP heroes, here we go haha

What’s your top dpsER so far? I’m simply astounded by the possibilities and would like to explore them all, but first wanna see how endgame EoR fairs vs WW. I know, both aren’t top tier to begin with, but great for beginners as I’m working on a guide for those who are new to Grim Dawn and RoT.

To prevent double work, one of the beta testers is also working on a new player guide. Although he isnt active the forum but just on the discord.
