Much like with the forager, the hunter’s productivity suffers greatly from poor AI. On top of this problem, there’s almost never a way to fix this issue even if the player decides to manually intervene.
I believe a few simple changes can help fix this issue. Especially when it comes to gathering & delivering carcasses.
When gathering:
- Hunters can carry a maximum of 2 deer / wolf carcasses. But they only try to carry 2 at a time if both carcasses are very very close to one another, making it an extremely rare event. Please increase this distance, so that this is more common. After all, deer require 2 arrows to kill, which means they will always run. The distance should take this into account.
- When the player selects a hunter that is already carrying a carcass and clicks on a 2nd carcass, please don’t make the hunter drop the 1st carcass on the floor. Make them hold on to their current carcass and go grab the 2nd one to carry both back to town at once.
When delivering:
- This one is a huge problem. Please make each hunter deliver the carcass(es) to their own hut, and not someone else’s. When 4 hunters come back from a distant boar-hunt, they deliver 4 boars to 1 hut while all other 3 huts are empty. This causes not only in a delayed production of food but forces 3 hunters to immediately go back to over-hunt deer, which might have otherwise used some of the time to respawn. Even worse: without this fix, I’ve had a game when, after multiple boar hunts over several years, all boar carcasses were being delivered to an empty hunter’s hut that had been disabled just because it was close by! I’ve lost years of food production because of this, before I was able to figure out the problem.
