New Forum Feedback

Yes, I haven’t found an easy way to do that either Ceno. Only thing I can think of is copy one quote, save it elsewhere temporarily, copy the other quote you want and then paste both into the reply box. I think powbam may have shown how to do something with multi-quote in his use this forum effectively thread, but I think that was for successive posts and that’s not always what you want.

What about multi-quote?

Yeah, but how did you do it?

Select text…quote…select text in another post…quote…repeat infinitely.

Grab and drag the scroll bar…or enter a post number… you know, like you could enter a page number?

I select text, then click “reply” then select text from another post and then click “reply” again.

actually, you can just select the quote button that pops up when you select a text. works flawlessly without nested quotes at least.

it gets messier with nested stuff.

Well, i’ve to point out, that’s pretty common for modern Forums to have this kind of “Multi-Quote” and tbh, that’s one of the best Features IMHO because back in the old forums you kinda have to copy & paste said Quotes and split them manually, with that it’s kinda easy!

Yeah, yeah, “if you don’t like it it’s because you’re afraid of change”

Hint : the job of an interface is to make its use easy. That’s the entire reason it even exists.
So if “many, but not all can, if they work on it, end up getting used to it”, then it kinda means “it’s a terrible interface that fails at its job, but users might be able to compensate”.
Same if you need lots of long posts trying to rationalize how it’s good - if it were actually good, you wouldn’t need to spend so much time rationalizing to begin with.

Added bonus if you also need to use grade school level of reverse psychology to taunt people into putting the work with things like “drama queen” and “childish closed minded” and the like. Again, if it were actually good, you wouldn’t need all that, it would speak for itself.

I’m going to just end it here. Not only the forum interface has become terrible, but the entrenched defensive mindset is certainly a telling sign it’s pointless to give feedback that isn’t going in the direction that is expected.

yeah I know, I just wanted to show another way of doing it

I think the new forum is superior, that is my fact.

That’s not what I said…

“Most” people are comfortably using the forum and not complaining or commenting on it here in any way.

God forbid people disagree with you, right? Maybe it so happens that you are in the minority opinion?

No, you didn’t actually. You just needed to click on the “multi-quote this message” icon in the posts you wanted to quote.

It was also quick and easy to use.

I like how it easy it is to do lists and such

I like how easy it is to attach links and images

I do not like that I have to code in order to get colored text

I do miss the color font button :sob:

Which in general would be true, but in this case of your argument is contradictory, due Humans are creatures of habits, which means that majority of people will have it easier to get into something which they are already used to, instead of something new, regardless of the said new to be easier overall. So in our argument we would need some People to judge who never touched any kind of forum before and than say which of them both they find easier to get into.

No, my statement was rather “people need first to get off their old habbits to adapt to the new one”.

Well, and if i would had made my answer smaller, you would discredit me for not having many Arguments to prove my point.

In that regard i would’ve lost either way, that’s why i thought i give you a longer answer because you had “smaller” ones already but ignore them or don’t eaccept them.

To be honest, from my Viewpoint you didn’t gave any feedback, but rather rant and share your opinion, and claim that as fact. And even if that wouldn’t be the case and you gave truly feedback, the thing with feedback is(and that’s something many peoples need to learn), that not every feedback will realised anyway. You can’t please everyone, and there were other examples where trying to do so ends up messier than if devs / creator focus on what they think is right and fits their product.

And if that isn’t enough for you, than you have like everything in the market the chance to use something which fits better your taste, like the mentioned Steam-Forum where i’m sure they won’t change to discourse so easily.

I agree on that. That’s a feature which i really miss myself.

Something I’d like to address one day. Presently the plugin we have for BB codes conflicts with the one that adds additional font formatting options to the Post UI. The plugin author literally warns of your forum “breaking”.

True, but if my Memory serves right, even with that functionality you need to fiddle around and cut the rest off which you don’t need. In the more modern Forums like Discourse however you only need to mark down the passage you want to quote, which makes it more intuitive in my opinion.

You might have noticed that the URL is being updated while you scroll through a thread. At the end you see the ID of the topmost (partial) post displayed in your browser. The counter on the right seems to count only undeleted posts.

It would be nice if it offered a color palette, which works well with the forum background.

To navigate to a specific post via keyboard DON’T type in search just hold shift and press the # key and it opens this:
