Thanks for pointing that out. Well, there is to some degree a part of complain which i get, atleast where they come from(while i don’t agree with them) but to complain / rant about an Balancing-Patch, because of PvP in an Hack’n’Slay like Grim Dawn, is for me the definition of insanity…
Yeah, I needed a ravager helm today, my beastcaller conjurer took a minute more to kill it while never breaking a sweat, such loss of power
Zantai pls buff
This is not true. Reflect is only reduced by resistance on the receiving end of reflection.
Source: go hit a skeleman with bleed in Arkovian Undercity.
I’ve been told multiple times it does scale with both resists… I don’t know whom to believe anymore. Also, never noticed which one is true, because I always cast bleed RR skills when I jump on a skeleton. Not gonna check it anyway, I don’t feel like opening GD nowadays.
Still not feeling the FG hyyyype I see
Testing stuff is always welcome
Yeah not really. Hope others will have fun in it/will be hyped (if they want to).
I havent logged in here since the OP I made. I figured I was going to get torched by fanboys but it looks like that isnt the case. A testament to the people who are attracted to and play GD. This poster kinda hit on my situation. I started playing 3 months ago and have played ALOT of hours getting exactly 2 characters up to speed. Im not a gaming scientist so when stuff like this happens…it makes it difficult to even launch the game again.
The Purifier was the classic…DW with the Elemental Balance rings, Baronath amulet and the Justice set. I owned Lokarr and now the reverse has happened since the patch. It could be those items or a combination of that and others things Im not catching. In any case, Im so burned out by getting this character to where he is I dont feel like figuring out why. The dual Familiar Conjuror I had depended on the 2 birds…the whole build was based on that. Yes, FG has a set that gives you them but that means I have to find a whole new set…and even then Im not sure what i’ll get. I havent looked into it deeply enough, but all I know is Im starting from scratch. Idk, I may just go full Beastcallers.
The thing is, why take back gear (or de-ball it) from the player? Its like you’ve built this beautiful strong house and then Crate comes along and says " Im sorry sir, your house is a little to strong for our liking and so we want 1/3 of the nails you used to construct your house…BACK. Wtf is up with that? I mean, no money is changing hands, there’s no competitions here, its just a game. Its well known that GD is very gear dependent so altering the gear after the fact can mess you up bigtime. It just makes no sense. Why should I invest hours of my time only to get my characters teeth pulled arbitrarily by the Devs? Its St Patricks day and Im struggling with even launching the game again. I was just thinking today of just going back to Skyrim and calling it a day. I know that it wont be messed with because development is finished. Ive been out of gaming for maybe what…7 or 8 years I think. GD was my first venture back in because I loved D2 so much. With this thing that just happened I feel like I made a mistake. Anyway, this post got a ton of views and replies which surprised me. The players here are great people. We’ll see what happens…All I know is Im really unmotivated to play. Cheers to all
Just wanted to throw in my personal experience of a “middleman” here. Only one level 100 toon, but 600+ hours played. A good amount of legendaries, but not a full collection by a long shot. Cleared Glad 150 twice (tried twice, to be fair), and never tried 150-170, but expecting a swift and violent death. So, neither casual, neither hardcore…well, what do you do to farm stuff? You come up with middle-of-the road methods of course! Farming Lokarr (those two chests have nice droprates), farming Ancient Grove for the blueprints, farming troves in Gloomvald, with Kupa/Reaper on the way, and Crowley runs with Fabius.
My point is : imho, problem with OP, and with people that are dissatisfied with balance changes in general, is the discrepancy between expectations and achievements. Saying that a build is “dead”, as pointed by many, is either :
1/ an over-exaggeration. More realistically, the build is a little worse, and yes, it can slow your farming rate significantly, but this is the price to pay for personal creativity, you think out of the box, you go into uncharted waters, and more often than not, your performance is dependant of the global state of the game, but at least you made it by yourself.
2/ a change of game-design. Pure prerogative of the game creators, you have to deal with it. Pretty rare in Grim Dawn balancing, if I may add. You either find a new toy to play with, another idea to try, or you move on, but it is the creative right of the devs.
Overall, such critiques make me really sad, and I mean it, because I’ve rarely seen an A-RPG that allows creativity like Grim Dawn, items are wonderfully designed with multi-elements, damage conversion, multi-mastery support in ways that allow some really weird and even unintuitive builds to still work, and by work, I mean being able to finish the xpac campain and farm it. Imho, everything beside that is cherry on the top (and shoutout for the awesome people that come up with cherry-farmer builds). I know some people say that “MC is super easy and faceroll”, but really, it is not, not for everyone. Ultimate has requirements, Nemesis have requirements, and these can be achieved by some really really cool ideas, surely not optimal, but really creative ones.
So whenever I see such a discussion, yeah, I feel it doesn’t do this game justice, because “my build is weaker” should not be a reason to be angry, but just another occasion to ask yourself “ok, how far can I push this baby?”
And that’s your opinion, which is a valid one. So is mine. My time is important to me and that’s where the beef lies. The characters were done and I wanted them to stay done. This isnt the NYSE with SEC laws being violated. I made my killers and I want to enjoy them for all time. I know nothing is going to change because of my post.
Still no posts include character save files and/or build calc links.
Total number of builds killed by the patch - 0.
This thread should be in the Rants forum.
Not saying your opinion is invalid, just…you’re hurting yourself, that is all.
Dude. You’re talking about OWNING a boss which is OPTIONAL.
Let’s be reasonable mate. What you want is a top tier build. Not a viable build.
I know for a fact that I’m a far cry from a top tier crafter, but I think it’s safe to say that I’m a decently recognized one.
I doubt if most of my crucible toons can beat lokarr.
EDIT: Just for the sake of convenience, this is what gladmark said,

2nd EDIT: This is essentially your logic -
The very first build I posted here featured a soulrend spellbreaker which could clear 170 without buffs and banners. Zantai hit it hard with the CD nerfs, aeon nerfs, etc. etc.
So I can’t clear 170 unbuffed/unbannered anymore.
My soulrend breaker is dead.
If Im gonna take the time to build something and only build a couple chars or so you’re damn straight Im gonna make them own everything in this game outside of a solo Modrogen kill. Which, I was able to do. Now I cant. So, is that MY fault? No, it’s someone who decided that my time wasnt worth much. But look, the reason for my OP was was to let the Devs know that maybe they dont need to micro manage the gameplay. I built my chars to keep in the garage like a classic car…but I got an unfortunate wake up call that Crate doesnt play that way. It’s their game but maybe stuff like this drives people away. Because that’s what Im thinking now. Do I want to build more chars or move on. No right or wrong…its just a fact. It hurt me and it hurt others Im sure. Honestly, I hope Crate puts arrogant Blizzard Ent out of business one day. Maybe this is my small way of helping them build a player base so loyal ( because players love Devs who actually listen) that they will be trillionaires.
Some builds are overpowered and need a solid kick in the butt. It it your fault you chose to make something OP and not think twice about this build. I did a Aura of Censure infiltrator right when they buffed an item to give +15 elemental rr to it, I knew this item will be nerfed, so I just made this build to prove Crate/players that this item is way too stupid to exist this way. Achieved a -190% elemental RR aura build that didn’t have to do anything to reduce resists by ~-125%. They only nerfed my build by 7% RR, and as I wield two of those, it’s 14%, which didn’t actually do anything on paper, but most people would drop that build because of the -7%.
Don’t view your builds as bad or dead after a nerf. You don’t call yourself dead or one step of death when you’re ill, right? Why would you call your build dead then? Sometimes a dead-looking build just needs a slight tweak to work again, look at all Spellbinders before the aether >> cold in Star pact, they were OP, then the conversion to Star pact happened and everyone considered spellbinders dead, I knew it’s damn bullshit because they still can go Reckless Power, will gain damage but lose CDR, so there’s literally nothing lost. It ended up being true because spellbinders kept spawning all the time. Now Agrivix “nerf” happened and people consider this build dead, but I see a potential and I know it’s not dead, just needs a small tweak and will work again.
It is totally not about the nerf, or Crate doing “stupid” stuff. It’s about YOUR decisions and how you act when you see a nerf. I’ve never looked at a nerf and said “holy fuck Crate did a shit job, they fucked up my character and now it’s dead”, no. Whenever they nerf “my” build, I try a workaround, if this build looks bad, I try another items, skills, devotions, whatever, everything can fix your build if you’re willing to check wtf is wrong with your character. Another good example for that is Allagast set. Crate “totally destroyed that set and everyone now hates them because they went full IDIOT MODE (that’s still a quote from someone) and killed Allagast and now it’s unplayable”, and it ended up being good because people found a good way to UTILIZE ALLAGAST BETTER THAN BEFORE, with small tweaks mostly in their skills and devotions.
Before calling a build dead, think of a workaround and then, after you try everything, call a build dead. It doesn’t affect your personal life, you don’t have time to sit and think, don’t do it, make another character and play this one. You’ll eventually think about coming back to the other character and fix it with, mostly, only few skill changes.
Since I have a pretty long experience with ARPGs I always think twice before I decide to make an OP build. Chances are that it will get seriously nerfed in a future patch. So, I usually try to get at least a few “back-up” plans for my chars and builds.
But on the other hand, I usually play too much so I pretty much always have something to play.
Thanks for taking the time to post. But people who have an issue with what I said miss my whole reason for posting and that is…time. I dont have unlimited time to game. I built my chars to last but the Devs dont see that as a concern for non-full timers. So in that sense yeah…it IS my fault. My fault for investing my time in a game still in development.
Anyway, I appreciate everyone’s feedback. I dont want this to get tiresome for everybody. The Devs got the message from the amount of posts and views by now. Take care everybody, I wont comment on here anymore. The point has been made as clear as I can make it. I’ll think on GD over the next few days but yeah…Im not liking my odds of returning and investing more time. Im burnt from 2 chars…lol
If the moderators want to delete this thread Im not going to object. Today was the first day looking at this thread since I posted. Crazy feedback but generally constructive.
You shouldn’t play a game that gets updated if this is what you want. Come back when Crate pushes out the last update of this game, thus your character builds will no longer see alterations.
Mate. No one said that’s your fault. But obviously your toon is at the tippy top of all builds.
Back during that stupid ass DA meta, all you had to do was stack 5k DA on any toon, and boom. You were God.
So they nerfed that (and rightly so). Is that a bad thing?
Crate aims to make this game BALANCED. If your toon ISN’T balanced, it’s going to get nerfed.
That’s all there is to it.
Think of it as a loophole. When discovered, they get plugged.
