Thank you for the tips. Tokens are out of question for untwinked. When the vids are up, you will see how I run with a shield, then 2H, then offhand, lol. I’m begging to get oneshot haha. My daughter just started a normal and twinked HC classless run and it looks so damn easy compared to veteran, Makes me wanna cry…
- On my way to Cronley now, having sneaked past Nicholas (will face him a bit later, once the gear is more optimized). Now Cronley is my biggest concern so far, as I got virtually no aether resist. 2.2k hp at the moment + 0.7k from the turtle. Farmed some jellies for the potions, but 8% only adds about 200 points… better than nothing. If I can beat him now and capture the next riftgate, the game is on and the pace will increase substantially. But still need time to prepare and potentially farm some gear with aether resistance.
You can just keep re-entering the game to refresh the vendors and look for stuff with aether resist.
I could, if I had iron bits to afford it. I’m selling all the yellows and still only got about 20k. Anything decent costs 35k plus and by the time I get the coin, it refreshes lol. But that’s part of the fun I guess. Makes it feel more real. Everything counts, every barrel is important, every tree stump needs to be checked.
Yellows will do the trick at low levels. Don’t shoot for a green unless you’ll be using it for 20 levels when you’re so low. Better to just get greens from farmable secret chests if you must.
I would not buy greens at all if I could help it unless I have a nice surplus of bits.
Here’s my GT @ lvl 24

Think I’ll just farm Cronley’s gang for a bit to get respected with Devils crossing, then just buy the aether soul blueprint. With 2 of these, I’d be around 40% aether resistance and 12% damage reduction from aetherials.
GT’s won’t help much since I can’t assure you’ll get optimal gear for any slot. This is what my character looked like at the end when I did the challenge: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/a2dJvGLZ
But I twinked like crazy the whole way through. Still, the stats will give you an idea of what you want. Capped resists, phys resist, DA, health. My devotion path ought to help you, but without those difficulty tokens letting you skip to devotion shrines it’s going to be a crawl friend.
I like your end game setup. Mine will most like be fire / burn oriented though. I can’t imagine how long it would take me to farm your relic lol. I’ll be using something more basic. Baby steps, still mustering courage and gear to face Cronley.
Here is a link to me fighting Cronley. I had really good lowbie gear though. But basically one fun thing about the fight with this challenge is that you really do need to kill the crystals he summons or they’ll mass up and fuck you.
Wow, it took you a long time to kill him on normal with some gear, potions and a relic. And you had more damage. Maybe post buff veteran is a bad idea after all. Will know soon. Need to farm the ghost cave for ectoplasm for aether souls and more energy regeneration. Then will go for it. The good thing, I’m at 2.3k hp now and all major resistances are maxed out, except for aether…
Fireblast might be a better choice component than lightning nova, so you can kite less because of the range.
That’s what I’ve been using, greater fireblast from flintcore bolts. It sux cuz you have to use a gun or offhand. So I’m using poor Francis’ weapon on lvl 26 char lol. But it’s worth it.
- Approaching 28. Still farming ectoplasm and grinding rep to buy the aether soul recipe. Will need an ancient heart for the relic too. Wasps cave should do the trick eventually. I’m hoping to finally face Cronley tonight…
So true. After spending 10 minutes on the ghost cave boss, I’ve decided that it’s just not worth it running veteran until the damage is increased. So at lvl 28 I dropped it down to normal and the pace became adequate. Killing bosses is now 4-5 times faster. Cronley went down in 5-6 minutes. There was no risk of dying as my aether resistance is now around 70% coupled with 2.5k hp, decent regeneration and 200+ Armor. Like you said, it’s the clusters he summons you have to worry about, so all my focus was on destroying them first, and he simply slowly died from AOE from the fireblasts. I’m now lvl 30 and can finally start looking for troves for blueprints and rare materials. A few more devotion points and I can finally get a damage boost…
Update 1:
Never been so happy to see a trove!
Update 2:
Farming the deeps trove. After about a dozen runs got 7x blood, 2x brain, 1 heart and a few relic blueprints. Inferno is what I need desperately now. Got everything ready. Level 32. Just 3 more to go to quadruple my damage!
Update 3:
Finally!
Will farm a bit more troves and then rush to Homestead!
Update 4:
37
Got my damage boost, it was a breeze reaching Homestead. Grabbed 3 more devotion points and now I have the crown = RR. The debate I have now is to whether get the witch blade for further -23% RR, manticore for -28 flat RR, or Revenant. Will have time to decide.
Any update, Bro? My popcorn is getting cold.
Yup, still going strong. 42 at the moment, on my way to Fort Ikon. So far it’s pretty easy, ever since I got my damage boost. Stats at the moment:
Armor 314
HP 4200
Resistances 60-80%
Regeneration 140
Devotions Tortoise + Crown
Lacking Armor and energy regeneration, but that’s RNG for ya. On the flip side, got a few pieces with good Hp, hence the 4.2k pool. No new close calls, not even turtle triggers.
Log is down!
Reached level 50. Malmouth is next, don’t have the res to bump to Elite just yet.
All this for a medal you can gd stash. No one can prove you cheated anyway.
Not like items have some weird flag like “spawned on x day at x time and dropped by x enemy” in this case it would be obtained by x character or something and gd stash items wouldnt have that flag…
I don’t play for a medal or community feedback for that matter. I’m doing it for the sake of pushing myself and the game to the limit. Same way I did in many other games, same way I do in life. If I cheat, all the purpose is gone along with my self esteem and integrity.
First legendary that I can almost use and what a great gift from Creed!
On top of that, I have no illusions about the success chance when going untwinked. This toon is doomed from the beginning. The question is When and How. And that’s what makes it so exciting. It’s like rolling D2 character using only broken items to see how far you get before the inevitable RIP. It’s the adrenaline.
