Grim Dawn Quests and Conversations Extraction Tool GUI
Grim Dawn itself already supports global languages, but most MODs are still in English.
Extracting Quests and Conversations from MODs is a very time-consuming task.
This might hinder the enthusiasm for localizing MODs, causing many excellent MODs to remain inaccessible to a global audience.
I searched through posts on this forum and found a PowerShell script posted by @Carson_N [Japanese Community of the RoT - #71 by Carson_N].
Based on the idea of this script, I created a Python GUI tool.
I named it [Grim Dawn Quests and Conversations Extraction Tool].
- This GUI tool can convert
.qst
and.cnv
files into.txt
files. - It recursively searches through folders, so in theory, you can specify the root directory of the GD game or even the root of the disk, haha.
- It supports three types of export directories:
- The source file directory, where the
.txt
files are stored alongside the source files. - A designated directory
\CnvQstToTxtNoLevel\
(all.txt
files in the same level)(this is the default choice). - A designated directory
\CnvQstToTxtKeepLevel\
(preserves the source directory structure).
- The source file directory, where the
However, this tool does not unpack .arc
files, so you will need to unpack them first.
This tool is not technically complex, and my technical skills are limited. I hope it can help modders who need to localize their MODs.
Regarding processing speed:
For recent PCs in the past few years, processing all .qst
and .cnv
files in mods like Grimleague is typically completed within 3 seconds.

Download2: 35.52 MB folder on MEGA
Since the executable was converted using PyInstaller, no antivirus bypassing measures have been applied. If your antivirus software triggers an alert, please ignore it.

Note:
This tool only processes .qst
and .cnv
files, excluding files like tag*.txt
from the language packs. Therefore, for complete localization, you will need to combine it with the original English language pack.
During my testing, I noticed that after converting .cnv
files to .txt
, an extra empty line was added at the end. Please be aware of this, modders.
However, during subsequent tests, I did not encounter this issue again. So, if you experience the extra line issue, please report it here.
As long as Crate Entertainment does not change the structure of .qst
and .cnv
files, this tool will continue to function normally.
Special thanks to @tt300 for testing the earlier versions.
Thanks to @Carson_N for providing the PowerShell script.
