"Resources" category on Buildings panel

I think the Resources category in the build menu is a bit overloaded, making it hard to find the production building you’re looking for. Especially since the little pictures all look very similar and barely resemble the actual buildings. As a minimum, I suggest adding a “Mining” category and move all the mines to it.

This applies to the entire buildings menu. I’m not a fan of the way the buildings are arranged by tier. When I’m looking for something, I end up hovering over each icon until I find it because sorry, I don’t have the tier for each building memorized. I’d rather have them grouped and arranged in a logical way by function so I can find what I want.

a search bar in the build menu would also help

Perhaps a “Natural Resources” section - to include all mining ( ores, sand, clay ), stone and wood ( logs, firewood and boards ). And a “Production Goods” for all the craft buildings.

I still can’t decide if some things life Foragers and Hunters should be in Food Production, Resources or maybe both. Foragers collect berries, nuts and eggs for food, but also willow, herbs and medicinal roots which go into production goods. Hunters provide meat, but also hides and tallow for production goods.

One that puzzles me is the Apothecary. It is in Amenities and Service and is the only building in A&S that is a manufacturing facility. Should be in Resources perhaps.
Further complicated by the fact that what it makes (medicine) has been slotted in the Food category!
So perhaps medicine is also in the wrong place i.e. It should surely be listed under Usable Items as I presume it does not count as Food?

We could have a lively debate about the best way to group the production buildings. In my head I group them by the main resource it uses, because you need that in production before it makes sense the build something that uses it. My categories would be something like this:

  1. Wood consumers: Firewood splitter, Saw Pit, Fletcher, Charcoal Kiln, Furniture
  2. Hide consumers: Cobbler, Tannery
  3. Flax consumers: Weaver, Paper Mill, Book Binder
  4. Iron consumers: Foundry, Forge, Armory
  5. Clay and Sand consumers: Potter, Brickyard, Glassmaker
  6. Miscellaneous: Work Camp, Basket shop, Candle shop, Soap shop, Apiary

I think brewery belongs in food production.

people in the 19th century used to drink beer for breakfast (source: Townsends) so I agree with this

I agree with Richard, Corporal Dave and Snowman.

  1. Medicine categorized as food confuses me as much as the fact that honey is NOT considered a food, just a resource for making medicine.
  2. If Beer is categorized as food, then the markets could make it part of home delivery. Then people could have the option to drink it at home while “chatting” or “pondering” . This would help those who have been complaining about the amount of time villagers spend not working, by doing two at once. Also takes less time if they don’t have to walk to the pub and back. Unless the pub was assigned a leisure points activity “socializing” or something similar.
  3. If they could carry it with them, they could be 'visiting a neighbor" and “drinking wheat beer” at the same time. Which would also be time efficient. Now we just add some smoked meat (sausage maker?) and teach the villagers what a barbeque is!
