SPOILER ALERT: Lore Discussion

If:

  1. All the blood of all living things came from Ch’thon
  2. Blood is power (possibly because it’s Ch’thon’s blood)
  3. Beasts are the domain of Mogdrogen
and most importantly 4. There are many more beasts than there are humans

then Moggy should be flat-out the most powerful being in existence. Right?

So is Korvaak basically the “Diablo” of this game?

Dude, what

I mean, can you elaborate a bit on that comparison

Yeah, would be interesting to get more on this. BTW, don’t know if it was mentioned here, Rattosh remindes me Akatosh in some aspects.

Here ya go

EDIT: now I ain’t sure if the shrines are actually dedicated to him (we can’t see an image of ruined ones)

First off I really like the lore of GD, imo there are parts that I feel are inspired by things like WH40000/WFB, Wheel Of Time and Cataclysm:DDA.
Since I’m a big sucker for lore & fluff there are couple of fluff I would like to know more about.

  1. Aetherial corruption, can the spirits animate dead things or is it just posession?
  2. Are cthonian demonhosts a thing?
  3. Are undead aetherial corruptions, just OLD?
  4. What determines the type of an AC, the strengths of the host or spirit?
  5. Vanguard differs how?
  6. Organized religion in Cairn?
  7. Cairns pantheon(s)?
Sorry if fluff is OT, but GD really needs comics & stories (exc. erotic fanfic).

Mmmm, perhaps I just chose wrong words to describe what I feel about GD’s story, as I pretty much agree with you on this one.

  1. So far, it’s been a possession.
  2. Somewhat. Powerful cult members appear to host strong chthonian presence withing them, as evident by Karroz and their spellcasters.
  3. Nope, they are two different things. Undead came from the Uroboruuk’s curse, they are not connected to Aetherials in any way.
  4. I think it depends on the host. If the host is strong enough, it can influence it’s Aetherial, as shown by Krieg’s example.
  5. Zero difference. Most useless added faction in the game in my opinion.
  6. Menhir. Official religion of Erulan.
  7. Old gods, Menhir religion, Witch Gods cult, Chthon cult.

I think Crate can put the bases for a new polytheist religion. They have the people, since we are pretty much followers of the gods of our main character’s masteries, they have / will have the lore, all they need is some temples and they’re set.

Wait a sec…what if each member of the team represents a god from Grim Dawn? And they need more followers to grow in power so they can rule Earth? So, in conclusion, Zantai = Korvaak.

…Where do I sign up?

Suppouse you’re fine as long it’s just worship and/or soul.
If things ever get Khor…C’thonian with blood and stuff might reconsider.

Thx @authentic.
So what was the thing fueling the Curse, aether?
Would fancy a go playing as an cthonian daemonhost.
Would frak the lore, though.

I wouldn’t mind erotic stories/drawings of Grim Dawn. Man, there was enough fan of fists these past years around.

So what was the thing fueling the Curse, aether?

I don’t think there’s anything detailed about it. Probably aether since it seems to be the “fuel” of magic in Cairn, but it has nothing to do with Aetherials (the spirits) as we know it.
Uroboruuk’s still a deep mystery in the lore anyway, as he seemed to be immortal way before anyone else (and seemingly keep his normal body).

Nope, as I said they are not connected. Uroboruuk basically conjured and performed the curse himself. Apparently, it’s so powerful, that it persisted until modern Cairn times.
You can play as the Occultist, though, which someway fills in the gap of chthonian cult members.

I order to avoid your (further) frustration let me explain my ramblings the long way.
Imo there are three sources of power to which your toons can tap into: the supernatural (aether, divine), technology & alchemy (fullmetal alchemist!!) and psionic (feats of soldiers & nightblades).
As necros tap into aether (or so I was under impression) wouldn’t the Curse be fuelled by aether NOT aetherials?
Or is U something far different, maybe a former member of the Five?

They’ve left him intentionally shrouded in mystery so far. All we can really say is, he is old, I mean deep time old possibly. And he doesn’t seem to like taking orders from anyone, see poor Arkovia. Even his followers don’t really have a clue.

Look at these images again

Now look at the faces of the guys on those pyramids:

Do a deep zoom in to see it

PS - They seem familiar to me >_>

You could make the argument that the vanguard is a more well-defined force with an organizational structure, entrenched instead of invading. We don’t see it in the main game’s aetherials, whose bosses are either the equivalent of siege engines (Amalgamation) or terraformers (Heralds). While it’s a rather hollow distinction, I’m sure that the internal politics of Theodin/Allasteria/Krieg’s clique don’t have much respect for the big floating crystals.

Ultimately, it comes down to most players not wanting to see Alexander’s big green balls in elite difficulty. It’s already bad enough to meet Valdaran unexpectedly.

This is a picture of Solael, by the way.

Mind…blown

It’s not the exact same God but I see your point

Yes:)
But this is also how the whole thing started.
How the forgotten god looks a lot like the witch gods:)

Hence why makes sense that the Witch Gods just occupied the free spot left by Korvaak and split the portfolio in between themselves (though his aspect seems to be Fire mainly which differs with the Chaos/Poison/Acid/vitality) and why the 3 are shitting themselves becoming silent all of a sudden (Hidden Path questline).
