SPOILER ALERT: Lore Discussion

From dialogues I had an impression that they do care but can’t (or not willing due to smth) do anything about it though :undecided:

From a conversation with Malostria in the Coven of Ugdenbog:

What about those threatening our world?

We’ve already lost, that much is clear to me.

Now we must look after our own. Protect those we can instead of throwing our lives away for a fool’s hope.

So you’ll just hide here while the rest of us die?

What would you have me do? Many here are either too young to fight, or too old.

Would you have me send the blind seer into battle alongside the remnants of your legion?

It is my responsibility to care for the well-being of my people and I fully intend to keep them alive.

It looks like the coven already thinks that they’re doomed.

So they rather just hide and wait until some forces came to destroy them.

I thought some of them would be willing to lead a small guerilla force in the field or be sent as coven representator for the black legion.

Or at least educate and train their young to fight as a respectable force.

I wish they’ll get bolder in the FG expansion since we’ll met another witch coven.

They should follow the example of rover warriors led by Quade. Maybe joining forces with Death’s vigil since they shared the similar fate of being hunted and persecuted by the empire’s Inquisitors in the past. (Think about it, The Rovers, The Coven and The Death’s vigil all had many members that practice forbidden arts. Shouldn’t they be thinking about joining forces because of this similarities?).

That reminds me of New Harbour. After the taken save the village by bribing Silas, the village leader refuse invitation to come to devil’s crossing. Saying that they won’t leave their home even though he wondered who will protect them now that Silas is gone.

Then after that iirc New Harbour will still be there without any changes whatever we do. That seems weird, because the GD lore implies that the aetherials are corrupting the wilds. Destroying environments. Thereby making the wild creatures become more dangerous.

Maybe the New Harbour village need some mini quest after we finished the Cronley act. Something like the village is attacked by a water aetherial monsters or something. At least to tell the fate of New Harbour after the taken rescued it.

I can’t wait to get to the Witch God encampment and hear some stories from their followers about them, and how they ascended to power. We do know a few things already, like how Solael carved open victims in search of the secrets of immortality, or that Bysmiel ascended while being taken to the gallows to be hanged.

A question about Malmouth - so there is this little girl Eraline in the sewers, being bullied about the two rich kids. If you are a necromancer you can have special dialogue with her, but as far as I could find out, even if you get the other kids to stop bullying her by diplomacy or threats, nothing happens and Eraline continues to have the same dialogue.
Also, I often wonder - we see Ulgrim, Anasteria, Creed use the rift gates you can create… so when we talk to Nella in the Malmouth sewers and realize she has been hearing Mallostria’s calls and tell her about the Coven, why can’t we just tell her “oh just walk to the sewer entrance and jump into the riftgate, it will take you there”? I mean I feel we are just sending her to her death, otherwise, how could she get back there, through the Void?

I am very sure there are going to be some lore tidbits about those specific things. I am also very sure that the Witch Gods are actually going to make an entrance this expansion and that we’ll get to actually meet them, but not sure how it’s going to turn out afterwards.

I’ve tried multiple combinations of things to stop them bullying her but her dialogue simply does not update. This only means that they never intended to update her dialogue for her to thank you or admonish you(because of the second improper method you can use).

Because, you can’t be completely sure that sending someone to the Coven is a good thing. The Coven may be a force of good, but literally all they do in their quests is to improve their own defences, and they only actually help the PC in one way(to kill Allostria) and to help Creed/You to find Ulgrim, but that’s it. They don’t take part in the war, they don’t help out through other means, etc. I get they are few in number and that their most experienced are too old to fight, but still, some assistance?

Yeah, but still, they are a good place for an occultist to go and hide out. Plus I think they are good people at heart - there is that girl who was just a thug without magical talents and the matron took her in and nursed her back to health. Sure you kinda get she reminded her of herself when she was a kid when you later ask for her history, but still.
I don’t think the witch gods would appear themselves. Maybe as avatars, like Mogdrogen and Ravager. I mean they are far newer gods than those two, but I bet they can still manifest avatars. After all, just seeing Dreeg can lead to blindness and insanity as Rugia is proof of, so you meeting him would not end well.
Btw, a not really lore-related thing… do the 3 councilmen in both Malmouth and Port Valbury ever drop their special wand? Because I killed them a lot of times already before and they generally, never drop anything at all, no stash orbs or such.

I think there is a bug concerning children’s conversation.

When I looked at the conversation editor, it was set to be a conversation that threatens other children as you are asked by Elarine. As a result they promised not to tease Elarine and when you report it to Erarine, she will say thank you.

Thad will be the flow of that conversation, but in the case of Ginny the conversation will not change. There seems to be some problem here.

i am really excited to learn more from the upcominng lore coming in Forgotten Gods. Hoping we learn more about Uroboruuk, Dreeg, Mogdrogen, Korvaak and Ulgrim in that order. :stuck_out_tongue:

As I have just replayed Normal/Veteran with a new character and read all the conversations and notes of course, I think it shows nicely the lead-up to Korvaak being the strange ruminations that made the Witch Gods retreat to the Eldritch Realm, lured Uroboruuk out to investigate some new strange power, alerted Creed that something malevolent is powering the abilities of Kymon’s Chosen, and even has Mogdrogen on edge because he know he met this force before but he yet has no memories of it… Meaning something pretty powerful (maybe one of the Primordial Gods?) tried to erase all knowledge of Korvaak from everywhere. Because I doubt it was Korvaak himself who wanted to be forgotten - Gods need worshippers to thrive, after all, and he is getting stronger now that he has them with Kymon’s Chosen.
Oddly it seems the two biggest powers, the Aetherials and the Ch’thonians, are completely unaware of this new power, at least no notes hint at that they would be aware of it. The Aetherial notes about “their” eyes turning towards Cairn I think refer to the remaining Gods, as being their disgruntled servants, they are the thing I think the Aetherials fear the most (likely, whoever won the God War banished them to the Aether in the first place).

Thanks! That should be reported as a bug, I think…
Also, I noticed that you can no longer spawn at the Steelcap District, not even in the Malmouth sewers - the game just puts you back in the Coven. I find it annoying since the Steelcap District is the best “home base” since Devil’s Crossing, having all types of vendors, and all of them near the riftgate.

Since devs are looking at here, it will not be necessary to report a bug again.

I agree. At the time the quest “For the People” is completed, the base of Marmouth should move there from underground. It is very inconvenient that the base remains in the basement. I always get frustrated when I go to the ground.

The official reasoning behind you can’t spawn in the steelcap district is than it would fck up multiplayer if some players already did retake the district and some players didn’t and spawn in a middle of a fight.

And i’m pretty sure you can spawn in the underground base, but since you spawn in the last spawn location you visited (the steelcap district not being one) and frankly you don’t have any reason to visit the underground base after you retake the one above, but you might have visited the coven for some reason (either for shopping or to get the Other You quest), hence you spawn in the coven.

Isn’t it possible that Korvaak himself tried to make himself forgotten because he was trying to escape the wrath of a set of gods? We don’t know all the information yet, also there’s the fact that the only people who we know that speak of him and seem to have “forgotten” him are Uroboruuk(an ascendant human) and Mogdrogen(a titan). Nobody else even seems to know him, which means that none of them were around when Korvaak was around, or are dead.

Does anybody know of any dialogue of Ulgrim where he talks about Kymon or his Chosen or Korvaak? I vaguely remember there being something but I’m not quite sure. Considering Ulgrim has probably been around forever just like Uroboruuk, he should probably be aware of Korvaak as well.

On a side note, when Uroboruuk is pursuing the hints of Korvaak’s emergence, he meets Chthonians, specifically Harbingers who turn his guardian against him, and he speaks of “treachery”. But whose(there are hints towards Dravis since Dravis makes an offering of a sort in the Void near Malmouth)? Also why are Chthonians there? I doubt this is a coincidence, because there’s no way Chthonians or the Bloodsworn hierarchy would not know about Korvaak since he is in direct opposition to Chthon, and there’s also the fact that a Harbinger spawns in the Kymon-only continuity of the Tomb of Korvaak at the very end when you go to get the Eye of Korvaak.

I’m also not sure that Aetherials are talking about the other gods, although it may be possible since the next expansion is about gods, they may easily just be talking about the higher Aetherials in the Aetherhold, which some significant Aetherial sympathizers have already stated would be more inclined towards stopping the Glorious Dawn than continuing it.

Korvaak could try to really stay low profile, at least until he gets stronger. Than again he seems to be awaken by Kymon but that might just give him access to the physical realm.

Well, I have been to the Burrwitch cellar a LOT but I have never seen this happen…

Usually, only a body is there. The altar looks like those you can find in the Blood Grove, so I assume some Bloodsworn have left it there, walled in a long time ago before the grim dawn.

Oh, thanks, that explains it… guess I need to visit the underground then.
The multiplayer explanation rings a bit false. I think it is more because the place starts out as enemy territory you have to retake. Though… so does Fort Ikon. So maybe not…

It threw me off too when none of the possesed aetherials mentioned either Korvaak or Empyrion. Surely they would know, since they exist as a form of hivemind in their realm and so at least have records of the war. Even if they keep it a secret, the rebel ones aren’t beholden to keeping it.

Just a variable chest, one of the higher-rarity types. Seen it there a couple times, also in the Flooded Passage and in the Cavern with Primordian. Wouldn’t read much into it.

There are also around 2-3 places in Burrwitch with Korvaak’s shrine, that could spawn random.

Huh, I never noticed this before… probably because my only other character with whom I beat Ravager before, I did not beat Mogdrogen with.
But yeah basically you can tell Ravager you beat Mogdrogen. (click on the pics for a larger image)

He is not impressed…

I do wonder if someone could make a mod and have Ravager and Mogdrogen fight each other (they belong to different faction so they would attack each other probably) - wonder who would actually win!

What kind of dialogue pops up if you kill Ravager and then talk to Mogdrogen?

I did not try that yet, I am gonna check! Sadly I usually play at night and I got so tired I almost fell asleep (not so bad with a pet build but deadly otherwise) so I forgot to go and tell him about it.
