SPOILER ALERT: Lore Discussion

  1. Yugol a.k.a nothingness existed.

  2. Someone, either Chthon or someone else came into existence and started creating stuff.

  3. The Primordials betray Chthon who I assume was the eldest Primordial at the time this happened. Since they couldn’t kill him, they cut him up and throw him into the Void. Then they steal his blood and use it fuel their own creations.

4.Primordials have started creating worlds of their own. Ralyoth created the world that is now known as the Shattered Realm, Menhir\Empyrion create Cairn, Korvaak creates the Eldritch Realm etc.
This is also a time when the aetherials served the Gods loyally and helped them with the creation process.
During this time Korvaak and even Uroboruuk existed. The entire Korvan Civilization was built around worship of Korvaak since he was the one who built it from the ground up.
It was during this period that Dreeg tried to peer into the Eldritch Realm and Korvaak turned him into one of his servants.

  1. Gods wage a war against one another presumably because they were jealous of each others toys. Mogdrogen was created during this period (unsure which side created him). Desperate for victory some Gods tap into the void to gain more power, this allows them to overpower Empyrion and Korvaak.
Aetherials were cast into the formless aether, Empyrion went AWOL, Korvaak receded to the Eldritch Realm awaiting for his wounds to heal. During this time Ulzuin (presumably Empyrion’s son) was responsible for guarding Korvaak.
No lore so far on the victors, a.k.a the primordials who tapped into the void. It is presumed that they went mad to the whispers of the void.

  2. Dreeg hatches a plan along with Solael and Bysmiel to bind Korvaak and siphon off his powers. Bysmiel seduces Ulzuin to get close to the gate to the Eldritch Realm. The Three’s combined efforts turns out to be successful as they manage to bind a weakened Korvaak. The battle however destroys the once prosperous Korvan Civilization.

  3. Many years later in a different part of Cairn, an Erulan Inquisitor named Kymon in his zealous search for accidentally reawakens Korvaak. Then Grim Dawn happesn

Awesome thanks for the help man! So do Gods like Ultos, Ishtak, Attak Seru and the other Arkovian Gods all a part of Cairn? They’re different from Korvaak in the fact Korvaak is an actual primordial and are more similair to Mogdrogen? I assume they were the ones who helped overthrow Empyrion/Korvaak?

How does Oleron fit all into this? Is he similar to the Three where he was a human who just becomes a God through some kind of otherwordly force?

Oh come on, they WERE retconned. Seriously, does anyone else not remember how they magically made Bysmiel grow boobs and various other lady parts and a propensity for plots and manipulation?
Originally Bysmiel seemed like he had some sort of prisoner/slave/bound servant-ish thing going on before he became a she and all that other stuff became… incorporated… into her new persona. Poor Ulzuin never stood a chance.

That said, there wasn’t much backstory to go on before the retcon anyway and the witch gods’ new personalities fit the new lore better.

Also, I think although Kymon may have discovered Korvaak he didn’t really think about aligning himself with the god until after the Grim Dawn.

Uh, no, Bysmiel was always a she.

Yeah I figured the whole becoming a servant of Korvaak was a retcon(for how they all gained their powers), but wasn’t Bysmiel stated to be a woman in the Hidden path quest? Where they say she and Solael were lovers but then become separated

There was no retcon.

That was the original descriptor of the constellation. Pretty much every other lore tidbit at the time referred to Bysmiel as a he.

I am now going to screenshot this page in case someone decides to do an edit. Though honestly I don’t think it matters, older forum posts usually referred to Bysmiel as a he.

Ah yes, the old wikia site which was abandoned because it was rife with misinformation. Great place to count as a source!

lol knock yerself out.

That page is old and it’s completely possible that the person who added the entry simply made a mistake.

Are you people seriously doing this? Are you going to start editing every old post in the first few years of the game referring to Bysmiel as a “he” after?

Ah yes, the wiki that hasn’t been updated since beta.

I wrote the Constellation descriptions, and that one did indeed say “he” at one point in beta, until it was corrected in a patch.

Do you seriously think I care that much about the wiki pages to edit them?

I suppose in some circles changing every instance of “he” and “him” to “she” and “her” among other things counts as a mere correction.

My, but you people are ridiculously defensive for some reason.

lol. Not quite as defensive as the person screenshotting a year’s old wiki entry in “fear” of somone going to the trouble of “editing” something out on you.

You seem to care a lot more than I do…I’m just telling you what happened.

I wrote the descriptions. Medierra corrected me. It was fixed. The end.

All one of it.

Can’t believe there seems to be so much angst over this, but here’s the more up to date Wiki page.

https://grimdawn.gamepedia.com/Bysmiel's_Bonds

And no, it has not just been edited by me or anyone else.

“This page was last edited on 23 October 2017, at 17:42.”

Since the game’s full and final release Bysmiel has always been referred to as a she.

Maybe the information on the wikia is from early access\beta days.

The Forgotten Gods expac proves that The Three spread misinformation across the world about their origins to ensure that Korvaak’s name was completely erased from history.

EDIT:

Why do I never get redirected to the latest post of the thread when trying to access it from “Latest Topics”? I always end up replying to old posts.

I suppose.

Though Zantai. You missed a spot.

@Tyr People use grimtools to look up items: https://grimtools.com/db/items/1626

@Chthon I belief Ralyoth is the name of the Shattered Realm or the land of the Korvan people.

Probably better to rely on grim tools for actual up-to-date info directly from the game’s files
