I am a level 67 demolitionist and am stuck at the Conclave of the Three when first starting Elite difficulty. There doesn’t seem to be a way out. I can’t transport anywhere and I have no active quests. Am I missing something?
This can happen if you join a multiplayer game and use someone’s portal before activating the one in Devils Crossing. But if you didn’t play MP, no idea how it could’ve happened.
However there is a fix. Locate your character’s savegame data in
C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_charactername\levels_world001.map\Elite
In that folder is a file map.dat
in which your character’s position is saved. Simply delete that file, and next time you play that character you’ll start back in DC. This won’t affect your quests or anything else, so you should be able to continue playing normally.
I don’t have an Elite folder yet. Only Normal…I have never played multiplayer. Guess I will stick to Veteran for now…
That’s weird. As soon as you start Elite for the first time it should auto-generate an Elite folder, with that map.dat file in it. If it did not, something went wrong.
How did you unlock Elite, via beating the base game or by using a merit?
There could be another solution to get you unstuck there. The DPYes tool has a teleport cheat function, you could try using that to get back to Devils Crossing.
Did you do the first few quests in the Conclave that the Emissary gives you?
If they never started in DC to begin with, they probably won’t have any quests at all, the Emissary is probably not even in the Conclave yet. At least it was like that when this happened to me (iirc, been a few years).
edit:
@BigCTM here’s another idea to get you unstuck, that doesn’t involve 3rd party software.
- Start a Normal game with your character and use a portal to go to Devils Crossing (I think you also need to walk inside the prison to trigger the checkpoint), then leave the game
- Locate your char’s savegame folder again, and create the
Elite
folder manually (in the same location where theNormal
folder is) - Copy the
map.dat
file from theNormal
folder to your newElite
folder - Now you should start in DC on Elite difficulty
If you are stuck there on Elite, then that folder would need to exist. Are you running with cloud saves or local?
In any case, Volek’s solutions will help you with the issue.
I now start in Devil’s Crossing on normal. I created the Elite folder and copied the map.dat file to that folder. Unfortunately, I am still stuck in Conclave of the Three. I tried deleting the map.dat file from the Elite folder and that did not work either. I am using cloud saves.
Nothing you change locally will work then. You need to download your cloud saves locally, disable cloud saves, make the correction, and re-enabled cloud saves.
I have turned off steam cloud saves globally and then copied the map.dat from the steam cloud folders to the local folders (Elite and Normal). It still takes me to the the Conclave of the Three. I wouldn’t think I would need to re-enable the cloud saves for now until the issue gets resolved.
Toggle the cloud saves setting in-game, not the global one.
Be sure to make backups of the cloud save versions or you may end up accidentally wiping out your data.
I turned off the cloud saves for the game only (not globally) and it still said synchronizing cloud saves. So I went offline in Steam and this fixed that. However, I am still stuck even when running locally. Not sure what else to try at this point…It does the same on Ultimate.
first go ingame into settings and double check the changes stuck (ie cloud is still actually turned off in Grim Dawn ingame), if it didn’t that’s its own issue(/settings file is being blocked or read only)
then do this, step by step
afterwards, when you launch into the game, double check you’re in regular mode(main campaign) or if you’re in custom mode/where your char might be in a mod
then do something ingame, exit game, double check if changes actually occurred in the documents/my games/grim dawn save folder (char save date should be upated to few seconds ago/when you just exited)
if it didn’t it might mean the game isn’t actually saving to the location so your changes aren’t being affected,
In that case it might be your saves are being pulled to the onedrive folder (same sub path),
and then that’s where the folder/file changes need to be made for the map file
It was still saving to the steam cloud save location even when playing locally. I copied the map.dat file to the Elite folder and now it’s working. Thanks for all the help.
