The game lacks replayability

[TL;DR]
As the title says I think the game lacks replayability.

Hi All,

Few years ago I had a similar feedback that after finishing the game on the hardest difficulty (getting everything as upgraded as possible) I had no motivation to start a new settlement – even though I really enjoyed every minute of it! Throughout the years the changes gave it more depth and stratigical considerations. Development also takes way more time. I also kept on playing to have 20 Tier 5 homes completing the achievent. These incresead the time I spent on my settlement coming back to the game which is welcome.

However, once again, after achieving victory (it’s a good thing we have this as a game elemnt) on vanquisher difficulty on arid peaks I just lack the motivation to start a new settlement (yes, I know about wasteland). The research element is nice, but it does not provide sufficiently different experience overall.

I really wish to see some kind of continent, or any high level map on which we can make progress, settlement by settlement. To support this I would like to mention I played another city builder in the recent years (not intending to make direct advertisement of it, but please a dev let me know if I should name it) which has that element. And it really dragged me. I kept on building new and new towns because I had an overall feeling of progress.

I hope you find this useful!

Best regards,
Eldoxar

What you are describing sounds like a story-based campaign, which I think would work in this game and also provide an opportunity to flesh out the world the game is set in.

I think one flaw in the current design is that each new map is more or less a slight variation of the same gameplay with mostly inconsequential differences even with different map settings. Other city builder games I have played have large differences between maps in their campaigns. For example, one map would be peaceful and have plenty of fertile land, but require the player to amass a a large population, build monuments, and fulfill requests for goods. Another map in the same campaign would have nothing but huntable animals and precious metals, where the player would have to export the metals and import more basic commodities like pottery or cloth while fighting off invaders. There’s also continuity where you could trade with towns you previously built to access resources not available in your current town. The map design also more heavily influences your strategy and where you are able to build.

One other thing that I see games in this category do to enhance replay value is add a means for players to create custom maps or scenarios.

The mystery game wouldn’t have anything to do with building fortresses with mythical creatures, would it?
