This game has 0 balance. OMG is it unbalanced!

Just jumping in to make the point - isn’t this typical of pretty much every ARPG if you want to push the hardest content the game offers in a reasonable amount of time? What makes Grim Dawn any different?

You can say a lot of bad things about Diablo 3, but just fullfiling the first 4 chapters of a season gives a full set that can already set you well into mid game. Just using it, and it’s fast to acquire it. Adding any level 70 legendaries can make you play into torment VIII already.

In Ultimate (GD) playing with now knowledge will get you killed every 2 minutes.

And it’s why a lot of people hate Diablo 3. That’s extremely handholdy and doesn’t teach the player the importance of offense and defense. How will the player know the amount of offense and defense they need if the game just hands everything in a silver platter?

Learning from mistakes and defeat is how players get better. Giving everything they need without earning it is the opposite of that.

You shouldn’t expect the same ease of acquiring gear or comfortable play in other ARPGs though. Sounds to me like you’ve been spoiled and are struggling to handle something that is meant to actually be a challenge you overcome/grind that you earn.

I played D3 for almost five years. Couple of sessions 5/6 even for ranked in top 100. I loved playing it. But that game is so different then Grim Dawn if you’re bringing that as an argument than you might as well just move on. Go play something else. GD is never going to be like that, totally different curve for everything and that’s intentional. I love GD. Currently leveling a classless character, all self found no lokaars no clarity. Its very slow and is requiring a great deal of experimentation and investigation. It’s fantastic.

How are they so different?

  1. The pace of the game Campaign.
  2. The pace of combat.
  3. The nuances of the mechanics.
  4. The variety of the mechanocs.

Those are just the first four that instant popped into my mind. And keep in mind none of this is saying one is better than the other but they are on very different ends of those four things.

i remember the 1st time i play gd beta, choose sorcerer combo, and… i use crossbow with fire strike main skill. and my damage is unfocused mess all over the place. needless to say i need like half an hour to defeat veteran loghorrean. with dozens of deaths.

then i started reading guides and advices on gd forums (grim dawn in game guide for how to make builds are almost nonexistent). after that, i tried making several builds, which drastically make veteran loghorrean battle much much shorter.

that’s the obvious benefits of reading forum guides. my gameplay experience with arpg have improved significantly since then, with me having a 2h ult lvl 100 ultos warder that has cleared most of the campaign contents (haven’t entered gladiator crucible and ult sr +10 yet). its my main farming character for the moment. not optimal, but it has given me lots of green blue purple to establish end game BiS for my other planned builds. a satisfying reward for me. thx to crate and forum players. bottom line is, players need a lot of patience for reading to properly enjoy games like gd, seriously.

btw about diablo 3. imo its very generous in awarding sets and rare items to player. gd has lower drop rates and less generous with rewards in normal. but the rewards will get progressively better from veteran>elite>ultimate. at ultimate if you know the optimal farm routes and have decent builds to grind them, you’re pretty much drowned in greens, blues, and purples just by playing like 3 hours per day for a week or something.

So basically they should remove all redundant difficulties before torment VIII, because even starter gear is too OP? Also what does it say about a game’s complexity when a new player just needs to get the one starter set and then he can do content in torment VIII? It’s either insane imbalance (between the starter set and the previously found gear) or the game is just super easy. Don’t tell me a new player has fully understood D3’s mechanics by investing a couple of hours into the first chapter only. Whenever people bring up D3 for anything except for maybe fluid gameplay I can’t help myself but laugh.

That said, Grim Dawn really needs to improve ingame tooltips, ingame game guide and have a voice for lore notes (even text to speech AI would do tbh).

I am sure nothing at all has changed in the game since then, so always clinging to one two year old case to argue how the entire game has 0 balance clearly shows that…

You know that voice acting ain’t cheap, right? Now multiply that by the insane amount of lore notes available in the games and you have your recipe for “we indie, not happening”. And using text to speech would make the game sound very amateurish and cheap. Sometimes silence is the best option.

I know, I know, but a man can dream :stuck_out_tongue:

Just make it a toggle

It sounds like you prefer easier ARPG’s. Which is totally fine btw. No judgement on my end.

But if that’s the case, GD isn’t for you.

You’re not going to enjoy GD very much if you don’t take the time to learn why your specs are failing.

EDIT: Ask any “expert” here - We’ve all failed more often than we’ve succeeded.

I’ve even made fan art about the whole “failing as an integral part of GD”

QFT. If I sat down and tried, I could count the number of characters I’ve levelled up to 85 (in vanilla) or 100 (in AoM/FG) and fully geared/tested on my hands. And feet. And that still wouldn’t be nearly enough.

Some of them were successes, but many of the early ones were failures and deleted at a later date or abandoned.

Fun fact: The number of pack mules I used to have (which was many) = The number of failed builds I abandoned.

To add to their shame, their names were removed via GDstash, and they were assigned a number. (e.g. pack mule 6)

Very accurate! I hold the Crucible record for fastest clear time, 11 seconds before my DW physical Opressor dies

I have so many failed builds but people can’t see the unsuccessful attempts, right! And I play without searching for information when I started. My first character - Witch Hunter died 32 times… on normal difficulty, including twice in a row against Venomstinger.

So game like everything in life have learning curve. For some learning is easier than others. But if you do it with passion, you can become better! :slightly_smiling_face:

I think I might hold the fastest naked cr record. :stuck_out_tongue:

7:06 was my best

John Smith had Cyclone EoR Archon with around 7 minutes naked time in early days of FG too. Your time must have been with Warborn EoR right?

I mean it’s crazy if you think about it, beating naked like 70-80% of builds with end game sets! Plus naked Crucible is lot harder, I can attest to that.

Btw why do Half Trolls have guns/bows/ weapons in the Gruesome harvest jails?
