How do you remove the rainbow in the actual item name text? I remember doing this last time i played last year but lord i can’t figure it out again, i know its something simple or at least hoping
The file tags_ui.txt has the property texts, the other files have item name texts. You just have to delete the files containing the texts you don’t want, so if you only want colorful modifier tooltips, you keep tags_ui.txt and delete all the others.
Thanks again!
I love this tool and have been playing GD off and on for a while. However, given how much loot gets thrown at you along with qualities, affixes, etc. I still get a little confused. For instance, the new icons that show an item as an MI (dark green diamond) the middle text is olive green. That checks out okay and works well. Now, the affixes is where I get confused. A double rare is supposed to be two rare affixes right? Yet, I’ll throw an item into IAGD where it will mark it as a “double rare” (I know you have nothing to do with that app) but yet full rainbow has a green prefix olive center text and yellow suffix? Shouldn’t all double rares be (GREEN) (OLIVE GREEN) (GREEN)?
I think the I am just confused and has nothing to do with this tool which by the way is a great tool and I have always used with GD since playing GD because it’s just too good not to (love how you can custom color effect texts etc.) So thanks for the work you do on this tool. I’m sorry if I come across as kind of scattered.
The tool’s database isn’t immune to bugs, when you check the rarity of an affix/item on grimtools and it doesn’t match, report it and I’ll fix it. Whenever there is something new I manually add it to the database, there is no script running each time, pretty easy to make a mistake or it simply got changed over time.
Hi! Thank you for the amazing mod!
I have one question though. Is it possible to change the items color itself, not just the name of it into diablo/poe style? Like white-blue-yellow-purple-orange.
Possible - yes, but it takes more than adding a few color codes to a text file. Adding color codes is all that Rainbow is supposed to do. ![]()
Do you know any mods that can do that? :)) I didn’t find any on nexus
Hi, first of all, thank you for this top tier mod !
I’m trying to use the “Special Highlighting” feature (described in the first post) to highlight specific attributes in the tooltip, it works fine for physical resistance or total speed, but I couldn’t highlight ADCtH, armor absorption or any damage converted to cold. Can we highlight any attribute ? Thanks !
I only included tags actively used for coloring so it doesnt have to load thousands of unused tags and freeze up.
Some colors are hardcoded, conversions being one of those iirc, but tags that don’t show up in Special Highlighting can be added with the Tag Manager. Not the best implementation, but it gives full control over tags. Look up the text and change the type, reload the tool and it should show up for Special Highlighting, or be included in the general coloring from the library.
Thanks for your quick answer, everything’s working and attributes are now highlighted just fine, damage conversion is actually pretty clear since in/out dmg types are highlighted.
One remark by the way : the Mastery Marker does not highlight +1 to all skills of mastery, it’s only configured for skills but not for global mastery bonus.
Thanks again ![]()
Hello WareBare,
I’ve been using your filter tool for many years, and I really appreciate it – thank you for all your hard work!
However, since version 5.10 or 5.11 of the mod [Tool], I’m experiencing an issue where character skills, items, etc., are not assigned correctly. It seems that the relevant .txt file hasn’t been set up properly and is missing data for the following three characters:
- Inquisitor
- Necromancer
- Oathkeeper
These entries don’t have any information in text_en/tags_skills.txt or text_de/tags_skills.txt, and I believe this issue affects all generated languages. Instead of showing proper entries, these fields display a “?” or remain completely empty. Here’s a screenshot for reference:

I’ve already tried reinstalling both the game and your tool, making sure to fully clear everything beforehand, but this didn’t resolve the issue. The file paths are set up correctly, and “FOG” is selected.
In the meantime, I think I’ll have to switch to the [Files] Full Rainbow (All Languages) version temporarily.
Thanks again, and have a good one!
Hey, I’m a newbie player and I don’t really use mods, but can I use this mod on the main campaign without having to play on Custom Mode?
Welcome to the forum. ![]()
Yes, because it’s a tool, not a mod.
This tool overwrites the existing .txt language files that you select, adding color-coding for easier identification of prefixes and suffixes. It does not change any game mechanics or alter the gameplay itself and or changed Names.
Highly recommended for new players.
I see not tag found thing. If I open the software and click “Save Colors” it will be fixed?
Tag not found happens with outdated Rainbow files.
You either download the most recent files and replace your old ones or you use the tool and save colors.
I downloaded files from Github. I saved colors last night, hope it works:)
Files and Program updated for Grim Dawn v1.2.1.3
Program updates itself, keep in mind colors need to be saved manually after it has finished updating.
You can find all downloads in the First Post or on GitHub. A new GitHub - Repository was opened during Playtest and will be used for updated Rainbow Files in all Languages, if you are using those you should check there after Hotfixes.
On a side note about all feedback and reports over the months (and even years), I’m not ignoring it. The current tool is getting retired and a new one will be going into a sort of “beta” phase soon, so updating the old tool would just be doing the work twice.
Rainbow Tool v0.5.12 - Update for Grim Dawn v1.2.1.3
- Updated: Internal texts updated to the latest Game Update.
Note: Change Log can also be found on GitHub and inside the program.
So there is no need for an updated version of Rainbow for 1.2.1.4 hotfix 1 ??
Thanks as always WareBare!!
