What do you think of Relics?

The relics themselves are in a good place as far as my limited play experience has shown. I haven’t played enough to get any epic ones. I do have the recipe for “Torment” (which dropped twice so far :(), but lack the recipes for the components.

However, there are some “quality of life” improvements I’d like to see in regards to crafting management in general:

  1. Option for the auto combination of gathered materials. I have no need to keep materials separated in my inventory. I’m much prefer to have them combine themselves than go through the busy work of sorting and combining them myself.

  2. Quick transfer between stash and inventory when the stash tab is open. Something like shift-right click. It’s tedious to move items one by one.

  3. Likewise, a key shortcut to move components to the appropriate crafting slot from inventory would be nice. Also, same shortcut to move completed crafting item to inventory. Or just have it jump over itself. When making multiples of a recipe, you have to move the completed item, then fill up all the used slots again.

  4. Remove known recipe drops from dropping again. Replace with an unknown recipe or drop nothing. Getting nothing is better than getting a known recipe again.

  1. Coming soon

  2. That exists. Try it.

  3. Also exists. Try shift-clicking. The reason it doesn’t auto-fill things like components is because you may end up losing a completion bonus you want to the auto-tool. You may notice that Scrap/Aether Crystals/Etc stay in the UI after crafting.

  4. That’s the nature of loot. No plans in this regard.

Any plans to rework completion bonuses on relics?

I think it would be much better if you will limit bonus diversity. Right now I can get +%poison damage for calamity relic. But this relic is about fire damage, physical damage and OA. I do not need poison damage when I use this relice in 99% cases.
So it would be great if you will remove useless completion bonuses. I suppose completion bonus shoud not disappoint players. Of course maybe I want +OA bonus instead +%physique but anyway bonus would be useful.

If the bonuses were always perfectly aligned to the item, why not just bake them into its base stats and cut bonuses out altogether?

The bonuses are meant to be small perks that add a little RNG to the mix, without being so powerful that they make a significant difference. If they are so strong that you feel gimped without the right bonus, then perhaps they need a nerf…

Weird, did try shift-clicking. Possibly a keyboard issue on my laptop.

As for #4, D3 went exactly that route and it’s something that improved the game imo. Thanks for the reply.

So, 2/3 of calamity relics still will be a trash. Nice news. I suppose, it’s hard to imagine any good completion bonus (like %1 life leach or some retaliation damage or %resistance). Let’s add something useless for melee fire-physical relic. Players should be happy.

The first Juggernaut I rolled did not have a skill I used but I used it for the main stats of the relic. Completion bonus is not the determining factor for relics. Calamity is a great low relic regardless of what completion bonus rolled. If you don’t get the completion bonus you want, keep collecting material and keep rolling.

Huh ? An item that dropped once cannot drop again in D3 ? That is news to me.

So what happens if it gets rolled again, you get nothing ? In that case I fail to see how that is any better. I doubt they would be generous enough to then give you one you do not yet have.

Learned crafting recipes never drop again in D3. There’s no issue of an “already learned” recipe whose only value is selling for iron. Plans are separate rolls on the loot table. If you rolled a plan, it selects from the list of those you don’t know. Every plan you see drop is something new, which is a lot better in my opinion than “Yay, a plan! Oh…never mind.”

the whole duplicate relic dropping annoys me so much. I just do not see the reason for it. I would rather the game check our blacksmith during the roll and if it rolls something we have it just drops nothing. That is far better then a blueprint that doesn’t sell for shit and just gets our hopes up.

there is no socketing feature in this game. You can get recipes for higher level items though and craft them. I have done it with a few for kicks. All of them can have components attached to them. I have yet to see anything besides relics that you can’t boost.

Speaking of which, any plans to make a component for relics? No big deal if not. just an idle curiosity.

Hi all

Sorry if it has been already asked, but I’m pretty sure I’ve read nothing about that…

Some side question about relics :

What’s the difference between “Empowered” and “Transcendent” ?

Does this have any influence on character ? (I mean except the bonuses that grants the item ofc).

it’s only a matter of level (like epics -blues- and legendaries -purples, not ine the game yet- for unique items).

empowered are the first tier of relics and just need components to be crafted.
transcendental are the second tier and need empowered relics to be crafted.
mythical is the third and last tier but they don’t drop for the moment due to their high levels.

OK I got it…

Thanks for the fast and clear answer.

HF all.

So far my buddies and I love the complex Relic system. We only play Hardcore Veteran self found, so its taken us quite a while to lvl our characters and actually find a few relic blueprints. I especially like that one of the NPC’s starts with 3 relic plans.

Keep up the great work!

Cant wait for multi-player in B20

I’m curious to know how many people are finding the recipe for the Conflagration relic. The merchant in SoT hasn’t had it in his inventory either (for me). I’m totally having no luck in finding it!

It’s totally random. I’ve found it 2 or 3 times. I just found it again in the Smuggler’s Pass a couple of days ago. Finally got the Mistborn Talisman blueprint after endless tries.
The Squall relic on the other hand, I have still never found. That one is extremely irritating…:furious:

Need that as well as Slaughter. Can’t get a single Symbol of Solael or Dread Skull to drop either.

On another note:

<------ Realises you can purchase blueprints from merchant in SoT, clenches fists and screams obscenity’s

As the other guy said, it’s just random sometimes. I’ve found quite a few conflags, if you want to trade for the blueprint let me know. I have a similar issue with ‘Savagery’. I’ve found every relic blueprint in the game, most multiple times, except for savagery. It continues to elude me.

I’ve found plenty of dread skulls, but don’t fret about not finding symbol of solael. Especially with the sot mob level changes in b20. Symbol of solael is level 35, itemlvl 45, which means it can only drop from level 45+ mobs. However sot doesn’t scale as high as it used to, meaning it can only drop from alkamos and some of the heroes in sot 4-5. I also have not found one yet.

Relics are great because they spice up the game quite considerably imho, especially the higher tier ones. I’m glad that the devs have included a bunch of defensive ones too since I play hardcore only. Just recently got back into GD and was able to clear SoT 4&5 on veteran with my Witchblade using pets. Sanctuary provided for some much needed extra protection in the more dangerous areas such as the death room

Also, the crafting requirements for higher tier relics seem reasonable as they should require a lot of effort. I think the crafting system is very well designed since you can and probably also have to recycle the ones you have assembled to craft better ones unless the drop rates for higher tier components will be altered in the future.
