What does make you to never retun back in Titan Quest game?!

i go back to titan quest from time to time. however, the atlantis expansion makes me wanna focus on gd 1st. because with new expansion, that means new bugs/instability. so i’ll just wait for several months before going back to tq.

both tq and gd are good arpgs. the story and setting in tq and gd are intended for different audiences obviously.
however, gd clearly has deeper & more complex gameplay. just look at the numbers and build varieties that gd has.
also, gd’s story is much deeper than tq. because gd has many, many, many places that has lores inserted into it. which are:
-skill (classes have unique and more descriptive background in their skills. not to mention their lore connection with grim dawn lore as a whole)
-constellation (gd gods and symbols in the sky. and how crate somehow interwove lore with gameplay thematically through this system)
-lore notes (tq… doesn’t have any lore notes. tq only have npc that spokes. gd has npc with story and lore notes to enrich the lores)
-items (does tq has lore backgrounds in its items except for socketables & quest items? i don’t remember. gd has lores on ALMOST every unique item. it gives charm to those items, and make collecting them all much more satisfying… turning us into archeologist nerd)

that’s what make tq’s story so unsatisfying and bland for me… the devs didn’t delve deeper into tq’s lore. its just a mish-mash of real world mythology string along into main quest plots. but i do like the charming atmosphere in tq. and some npcs in tq are just so memorable for its quote (my fav is charon. his “PILLARS. RISE!” quote followed by river styx doing his bidding is the most memorable moment in tq).

still… gd’s story are much deeper than tq. its hard to argue with that. in the end, both are awesome.

Yep, many of the quotes from TQ are pretty memorable (the necklace!). As for Charon, pretty sure he says Rivers rise, not pillars.

Depends if you talked to the various storytellers along the way. They gave a lot of the mythology of the areas in the game. GD does it with lore notes instead.

it kinda rhymes with the pillars of water he summoned, so i often confuse it with rivers.

the machae’s language that’s spoken when fighting us are also memorable. ‘ORES MODAAN’ or something. it always make me want to watch out for any grandmaster machae warden.

that reminds me… does anyone know what exactly the dvergr say when they’re killed? (it sounded like ‘SOUP’?). ragnarok’s human enemies’ quotes are also hilarious. they yelled so loud above other audio fx.

those story tellers are the strongest point of tq lore elements. yet tq still needs more… it still feel lacking for me after reading so much gd lores. most of tq’s storytellers feels like they are disconnected from whatever main quest plots that threaten their regions. they feel like fun trivia side show most of the time.

Well, they probably are. Don’t forget TQ had to meet a kiddies rating to get published, whatever the video rating equivalent is. GD doesn’t and was never meant to. Medierra’s said that they weren’t allowed to have blood and gore in TQ.

Still, that didnt prevented them from having “bleeding damage” in their game
Bleeding damage without blood & gore looks kinda pathetic…

It wasn’t a damage type you could see though or get resistances against. That only came in with the AE version of the game.

Wait, really? I kinda don’t remember that tbh. I thought we had that resist but it was not displayed anywhere, just like vitality and physical resist iirc.

What I mean is you wouldn’t see any of those on relics/charms/gear in TQIT. If it was there, it was invisible. It was only in AE that they were made visible in your resistances/damage and added to relics/charms/gear.

Was there resist on items or not - doesnt matter. Bleeding damage was used by 2 vanilla masteries (hunt & shadow, if i remember correctly), present on gear, skills, etc. So you could easily deal it to your enemies, and instead of proper “gore” effect, you saw some sort of crap…

Yeah, you’re right. Had a look at the manual and that says Hunting and Rogue have some bleed damage.

Anytime someone mentions that I always “got” to hear it.

Such a great voice line lol

OK, you guys win. There is no way GD can top that line.

Yep, TQ was a gold mine for stuff like that.

gd does have charming quotes. most of them are from enemies though:
-bandit: HEY! YOU!; GONNA CUT UP UR FACE! (we never see any cut-face-masks in bandit hideouts though)
-aetherial reanimator: GROANS IN PAIN LOUDLY ALL THE TIME whenever players touch them; IT’S ONLY THE BEGINNING.
-our old pal krieg: AH. I’VE BEEN EXPECTING YOU; YOU’RE STRONG. BUT NOW, I WILL DEMONSTRATE, MY TRUE, POWAAAARGHRAGBLLAR. Also, he’s the only boss that has theme music for a looooooong time in early gd days (DUH DUH. DUH DUH).
-cronley: HAhaHahHaHaAHA
-theodin: cackles creepily
-korvaak cultists: KORVAAK. SAAAAVE MEEE~~ (sounds sad. makes you want to pat their shoulder and tell them it’ll be ok)
-korvaak’s… fat champions…: KNEEL BEFORE KOR- UOOOOO… (player interrupts korvaak fatties by punching their stomach. causing indigestion. those guys are fluffy punching bag that goes UOOOO when you fight them)

How could you forget “KILL THE NON BELIEVER”?

bloodsworn’s quote are kinda straight with little nonsense. though i do note the intriguing dying quote from karroz. karroz’s “NO. NO. NOOOOAARGH!” makes him sounds like he’s regretting offering his soul to chthon. also, there’s a skeleton merchant in the boc roguelike named karros adal (his failure or his descent into the void probably rename his soul or something), with a chthonic unraveller standing nearby. makes me wonder if that’s karroz being tortured by that unraveller. this could be true, since in mourndale we also get the option to rescue some turncoat bloodsworn who states that they’re going to be tortured by a bloodkeeper.

that makes me reminisce about chthonic fiends. in gd early access, i remember that those fiends had cute dying sounds that sounds like ‘kaaaw’. then crate replace it with some hissing sounds. maybe crate realize that chthonians are not intended to be cute at all.
still… crate forgot to remove the cuteness from gazers and basilisks (if you remove gore in options, gazer’s ragdoll is hilarious. they roll around like footballs. while basilisk’s ragdoll is just cute and ‘awww’ inducing since they curl and roll around like fluffy big headed elastic snakes)

These thq nordic fabrications are just terrible! They are trying to match GD, but GD has done it all already and much better. I suspect that nordic is planning to make TQ2, but this will be an ultimate sacrilege, I fear the worst…

Its beyond my understanding - imho, sounds/music/story mean nothing in ARPG genre, you are grinding for days/months/years, im listening to my own playlist during the playing and skipping all stories/npc interactions and such in these kind of games

Thanks for sharing, have you seen X3 Reunion, by the way?! I dropped a rain of nostalgic tears when I have seen it at first :grinning:

A very special game actually. It has ton of mods, so you can tune up it for your own personal liking, I have created my own rulesbook and used my tarot deck to reach experience between table and PC RPG game!
