Where is the Church?

I think by now we’re all aware this is a fictional setting. But:

Our idea of what this setting - fictional or not - should incude and look like is shaped by what we know. The devs drew major inspiration from the northern european medieval “era”, and it shows - beautifully I think. But expectations are shaped by this inspiration, too, because of course it’s very recognizable. And because of this, to many players it feels like there’s something missing if there’s no church (and I mean church , not temple/ mosque/ whatever)

Religious folk? As far as I can tell both sides of the argument here are atheists, by everyone’s own admission.
And I don’t see much vitriol, apart from this one single person I just had a back and forth with. Most of the discussion here is perfectly civil.

Haha, well yeah, I think that may be the majority but we’ve also gotten some pretty hate-filled, profanity-laced emails. We’ve literally been called “gay” for not including churches… even though we have never actually said we didn’t plan on adding religion or definitely weren’t adding churches.

It’s honestly been up in the air and we’re fairly surprised people are flipping out about it, considering the game is in early-access and obviously not finished.

Maybe not from forum members, but there are plenty of other places where people could pick up on this. Several threads on Steam for example asking/commenting about religion or the lack of. Twitch, youtube, instagram, facebook - Crate have a presence on all these.

Yeah that was me having that conversation, so I’m aware of the post you quoted.
There’s no reason though to believe anyone of us here is sending hatemail.

If there would be churches in the game, hatemail would come from the ,other side’’ of discussion.
It’s unavoidable, I think.

On the other hand, the fact that there is enough people to argue means that the game became popular

You might have meant well, but calling religious folks “bigots and losers” because a bunch of self-proclaimed atheist wanted religion or just a church building in the game - now that’s some vitriol! That’s needlessly pouring oil into a discussion that, for the most part, wasn’t all that heated (though extensive). The hate mail doesn’t stem from this thread to my knowledge either.
A call for all to “stop this madness” really doesn’t work while throwing around insults (even if those are targeted at a group that hasn’t been all that vocal in the thread, afaik).

Maybe it’s time to close this topic. My goal was to find out why there were no religious buildings in the game.
The staff responded to it, are aware that many players would like to see this mechanism implemented, so the goal has been achieved.

I’m thinking the same. While overall comments have been reasonable I think the thread’s also proven why the old adage of “never talk about religion, politics or the weather” still holds true. Views both for and against have been made and the devs are aware of those views. Nothing further will be achieved by keeping it open.
