Why is Alkamos' Drop Rate So Low?

Hello there,

I just wanted to drop some feedback on farming Alkamos for his legendary items… it is making me go insane.

I came up with a build i wanted to try out because it looked really fun. I was perusing the grim tools monster infrequent items and thought it would be fun to make a character based off of the man himself Alkamos. I’ll link the build below if you want to check it out:
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/mN4alJ52

So i started to do SoT runs to get the scythe and the two rings. About 25 runs in i though “i haven’t got anything yet” so i checked out the drop rates on grim tools which i will link too so you can see the numbers:
https://www.grimtools.com/monsterdb/186/items

I started to crunch the numbers and the drop rates are unreasonable in my opinion. There is a 5% chance that Alkamos has his scythe and roughly a 1% chance for each ring. Therefore, it would seem a player is expected to do 200 runs to have fair odds of getting all the items. it takes me roughly 10 minutes to do one run so this makes 2000 minutes. There are 1440 minutes in one day, so roughly speaking, to have fair odds i need to do SoT runs for one and a half days of pure play. I work a full time job so this would be about a month of just doing SoT runs when i play GD. I am nearly at 100 runs now and I still have nothing, not even a scythe (which is unlucky but not
improbable).

I have gained a bunch of recipes and legendary items, from the chests behind Alkamos and Moosy, and completed a set or two which is great, but, i have gained no progress towards what i am farming for.

For me the real kicker is that these items cannot be transmuted according to grim tools. So, if i managed to get two rings after 200 runs but they were the same ring i would then have to do 100 more runs to have another chance for fair odds for one more ring. This is just crazy!

“Cannot be transmuted into another item from this set”

I might do 10 or 20 more dedicated runs but i will probably just give up after that.

My suggestion would be to buff the drop rate significantly so acquiring the items is reasonable. I would suggest the following drop rates for Alkamos’ when your character is level 100 as follows:

100% chance to have a weapon with
15% chance for the Scythe Soulrend (Level 94)
85% chance for the other weapons

50% chance to have a ring equipped
20% Chance for Alkamos’ Touch of Dread (Level 94)
20% Chance for Alkamos’ Touch of Anguish (Level 94)
30% Chance for Alkamos’ Torment (Level 94)
30% Chance for Alkamos’ Agony (Level 94)

These rates might seem high to but i think they would be much more reasonable. If i want to farm Alkamos’ legendary items i would hope to actually get them after a reasonable amount of hours played/number of runs.

You also have to factor the cost of the run itself. It is not something that is free like farming the Krieg set which also has a higher drop rate. You have to craft a key, which at end game might not seem like much, but i am rapidly running out of Blood of Chthons at this rate. Yes I can transmute crafting material to Bloods but i feel it is taking up way more than it should.

If the drop rates were higher I wouldn’t mind if you could not transmute the rings but as it currently stands now yikes. I am coming up for 2k hours in GD over 6 years and i expect many many more to come, but this is the first time i have felt that the odds are so stacked against me that i might give up and move on to something else. If i get a drop from going through SoT in casual play great, but i may never get to complete the build i want to make without some serious hours put into it.

The chances are low and unlike Soulrend, the rings are good for multiple builds.

I think after 2000 hours you’ve earned the right to use GDStash to help you try out a build. That’s my suggestion. Or you can “give up and move on”, because it’s very unlikely that Crate will buff the drops for you.

Imo, the drop rates are insanely high. I played so much TQ that I consider under 1% drop rate high.

If the drop rates would be as you suggest, people would start selling Alkamos legendaries because it’d drop even more often than a random rare item.

I remember we had EXACTLY this thread like 2-3 months ago.

Soulrend’s drop chance is fine. It’s actually amongst the highest out of the roguelike Bosses.

I could see the rings getting slight touches to their drop rate but not anything big like you’re proposing. I’m thinking around 1.5%.

We did.

Why Alkamos’ droprate is low? Easy. To promote GD Stash. :stuck_out_tongue:

And I still don’t have single Alkamos ring.

Deja Wu!

I actually managed to find a second purple ring since that last thread, and it even was the one I didn’t have. Only took about 3k ingame hours, I’m never running SoT again.

Until I want a vanquisher build I guess.

That is very non-lucky if you spent all those 3k hours in SoT :stuck_out_tongue:

You can calculate CL(at least one of each) as 100*(1-e^(-x/100))^2

95% CL is 370 Runs, assuming 10 min / run that is 3700 min = 60 ish hours.

And 60 of 3000 is 2% of your total gameplay.

I have 5 pairs now

Out of morbid curiosity, how many soulrends can I expect to find before getting one set of purple rings?

In how many tries?I have completed 270-280 maybe,no purple ring,but 20 Soulrends:rolleyes:

Hail,Mamba!

Define “expected” in statistical terms

You definitely a pretty unlucky bastard

280 runs you have 99.3% chance to have dropped at least ONE of them :stuck_out_tongue:

I meant in the 370 runs.

You have to be specific

Do you mean “For players that find at least one purple Alkamos ring in 370 runs or less, what is the distribution of the number of Soulrends they find before they drop their first purple Alkamos ring”?

Note, 99.4% of all players will find at least one Alkamos ring in 370 runs.

Shar’Zul’s Worldeater has 2% chance to drop, how many runs do I have to do in order to get just one, assuming I am unlucky as fuck so the chances to drop fall down to 1%?

Not that I even need this weapon.

I find it is simply unreasonable to expect players to farm one specific boss that many times before they acquire the ring set. So what if other games have lower drop rates? they don’t make low drop rates reasonable. HC also exists which makes it even more unrealistic.

I just end up ignoring these items due to the time sink involved. If they happen to drop for me then great, otherwise I want to play a variety of content.
