Wolcen now on Early Access on Steam

1 year vid

I remember some years ago now, looking at the first iteration of Umbra just before i started to get involved with the GD alpha. It looked promising then but the devs kept it away from public input… i got the feeling from the website back then they were looking for investers or to sell their prototype to an interested party.

I was pleasantly surprised several years later to see it surface as a playable demo and then go to kickstarter. This vid shows an interesting progression from a proof of concept, core mechanics prototype to a fully fleshed out arpg. The features due to drop in the next patch should really help to establish the games own unique identity.

Good vid, only short, worth a watch.

Does not look bad at all.

+1 to Linux support!

The more good ARPGs the better.

V0.5 has dropped with a new map and half of act 1
finally added overlay map option for dungeon areas

plus some interesting additions

Spreading Nodes : in certain areas of the world, you’ll find entities that extend their influence on the ground over time and endlessly spawn foes. You’ll need to destroy them quickly if you don’t want to be overwhelmed, but keep in mind that you can’t use them to farm experience or loot because the node only will reward you, not the enemies that it spawned. But know also that those rewards get better the more advanced is the progression of the node when you destroy it, so it may be interesting to let it extend, survive the spawned enemies, then destroy it when it’s the strongest.

I just started playing this yesterday. Gotta say, I’m pretty impressed with Wolcen. The graphics are nice, good atmosphere, the gameplay is smooth (skills feel good), and the Skill Tree is impressive. I’m excited about the development of this game.

This looks super promising, but it’s going to be another couple of years until it’s done IMO.

Looks realy promising, i hope it wouldnt end like PoE

The real risk with this one is that is trying to be lot of different things at the same time.

So, ive tried early acsess. On lowest possible graphical settings i see FPS drops below 20 with my I53570+GF750ti, kinda slow and laggy. First boss looks lame  Game crushed after ive leveled to 2 >_> Skill tree looks promising .

So is there any chance that this game will be done in about a year or is that hoping a little too much?

not a chanse, it look worse that GD in first EA builds.

Damn :undecided::undecided:

Dat Boots

BTW, i can see her hand penetrating shield texture. And the game tend to crush on a regular basis?

It’s alpha, it’s going to crash, send them the dmp file in the game directory so they can fix it. There is a thread in the steam forums for it

Half of act 1 content so far, so it’s going to take a few years most likely, if you take the timelines of POE, Grim Dawn and D3 into account. 5 years seems about the usual.

There are only 2 of the 4 rings in the skill tree, and ring 2 is not complete. Only 10% of the skills are in and half of the current ones are getting reworked.
A lot of mechanics are not yet fleshed out yet, neither is the economy, according to what I heard from the devs.

This is an Isometric RPG right?

I saw some screens that made it look like that

Yeah, like Grim Dawn, POE and the Diablos

see for yourself

Game definitely worth the purchase. Their trello is public and the devs are great to talk with and easy to reach on discord.
Game has massive potential and their game engine and graphics is just orgasm <3

You have to forgive an old gamer who doesn’t get excited so easily, i’m keeping an eye on it anyway.

I don’t blame you! GD SP has been great, MP a complete disaster. Only reason I don’t put in so much hours in GD anymore. I like my arpgs coop!

Cause gd is tailored around sp. It does 1 thing and it does it well ( i currently have 1700+ hrs of gameplay) my skepticism toward titles like wolcen is cause apparently it wants to fill too many niches. Doing a solid sp arpg is not easy, doing a solid always online arpg is not easy, they trying to be both ( or a mix of both) i wish em the best of luck!
