care to elaborate what kind of decisions? i dont usually fallow news and im lazy to watch hour long videos with a guy trying to promote a game, but im interested about the strangeness
That was about their stretch goals. They had a poll on stretch goal during the KS, but whatever they ended up offering as stretch goals after the poll had no relation to what fared well / badly in that poll. Thy might as well not have had a poll at that point.
In fact one stretch goal was for stuff that supposedly was already in the base game (transmog I believe, has been a while).
so all in all it was kinda meaningless move to stir the soup (meaning by soup- players)
yes, left people puzzled as to how they arrived at the outcome. What good is player engagement when you ignore it (and what does it do to future engagement)…
Well, I can’t say that having no player input is a bad thing. Look at how many amazing games we’ve had over the years way back before any kind of player testing was a thing. I remember beta testing always being locked away and you had to either personally know someone involved to get a beta key or input your e-mail and hope you get picked. Even then, there were many great games released before that time, so maybe these guys have what it takes to produce a great game on their own.
That being said, it’s a little weird they would offer testing for gameplay features but restrict everyone from actually testing the rest of the game. Also, according to their updated roadmap, the game is open for early access, but they are years away from releasing anything to the public, so why are they opening the game to early access? What do they hope to accomplish by letting the testers play the first act over and over and over again while they take years to complete the rest of the game?
so people buy the game now, funding their development
There is quite a difference between “not releasing the story” and “not releasing anything”.
If you take Grim Dawn and remove the story, you still have the masteries, the skills, the devotions, the vendors, the blacksmith, the illusionist, the spirit guide, etc.
Grim Dawn without the story, there is still a lot to test.
And I would even say the remaining needs more testing than the story as it’s just a story and tools to tell that story are part of the “remaining”.
Wolcen is still in alpha, so there is less to test in Wolcen without the story than in Grim Dawn without the story, but there is still quite a bit to be tested.
Yeah sure, whatever. Like I give a shit. They should stop putting out shiny gameplay teasers and just finish the damn game.
:furious: I am so glad I haven´t bought it. It looks nice, but … meh. :furious:
And it feels like they have been working on it forever…
From what I read on their Steam page, their next update will release in Setember only, which will also be the beginning of the Wolcen Beta phase…
More waiting I guess… At least the next update should be very significant and hopefully, make the game more stable as well.
As usual, pretty visuals but no actual content, just more teasers
I don’t get the hate for the delay in this game… really. Diablo 3 took 5235234 years to come and it was SHIT as hell, it doesn’t mean anything… let then take their time.
Yep, Crate let us pay to support GD about 2-3 years before we could even play the alpha, and then another 2-3 years to play the finished product. Look at my sign up date and look at when GD was released. If it’s something worth waiting for…
Yes, but Crate were releasing new content during all that time. From what little I’ve heard that’s not the case with Wolcen.
Because Wolcen Early Acess sucks. Kinda.
I am old enough to remember how things used to be, you´d hear about a game when it was almost ready to be released, and then if was out.
That was neat.
Now we get teased with shiny trailers and, naturally want to play the damn game. But we can´t. It is frustrating. Haven´t bought Wolcen, but from what I hear/read, it is not really playable. So again, frustrating.
But another trailer.
Yay.
My pc can run some pretty heavy games but Wolcen I get utter shit fps.
I guess the engine is too much for my gpu/cpu to handle.
I played it for 3 hours in a shit shit shit pc, everything on low and with 20 fps and I fucking loved the game so far…
From what I gather the current EA build is about half of act 1, with 5 total acts planned. But at no point in EA will you ever see anything but act 1. Which defeats the whole purpose of EA in my opinion, you get all this testing and polishing potential and then… not use it? These people are strange.
While crate had early access available, yes. Before that, we waited for quite a while between screenshots. We got a single video clip teaser, and when we asked for more medierra told us they didn’t have the time to take screenshots or videos, it was game dev or teasers, not both. I don’t blame Crate for that at all, I’m just trying to give perspective.
The point of the matter is, yes, as tsuelue said, early access is ass. People want it NOW and get impatient. Even if you have weird principles for your development like only releasing one act for ea, that doesn’t mean it isn’t being worked on. Ea backers aren’t quality assurance/pro game testers, if the devs don’t feel the need to let people have the whole cake now… that’s fine and I kinda agree with it. People will get bored of the game I’d they can just see everything now before it’s meant to seen.
The problem now is, the early access people are getting bored too. When this happens, word of mouth referrals go out the window, hurting future game sales.
I’m all for waiting on a great quality game, but I’ve never seen an early access such as Wolcen’s. The way reveals are going it perpetrates the lack of anything past act 1, which then makes all of these backers believing they won’t see this game for another 7-9 years. By then no one will care about it as it has now become buried in the Steam game lists.
