Wolcen now on Early Access on Steam

Looks Like they are moving into beta at the end of September. Here is a new trailer:

and a new post about the state of the game:

Still haven’t picked it up personally, but we’ll see what this next patch brings.

September is coming!

Too bad it was pushed back until who knows when.
They have a stress test set for middle of October now.
The EA alpha really isn’t that good, so not a huge deal to me. Plus Pathfinder: Kingmaker releases in Like 11 hours so I wouldn’t have played Wolcen anyways
I doubt the true beta releases for a while yet tho.

This is hardly surprising, honestly. And it’s confirming my gut feeling that this game will never be released in time. If at all…

I had some doubts about this one (some of em are expressed in this very thread) but i ended up buying. Since i bought ( something more than a year ago) few stuff was added but nothing substantial. This last new confirmed my worries. Hope to be wrong again but i have a bad feeling.

Keeping close eye on this game, since I have never seen something like this on Cryengine.

They are done with first act…there is 5 acts. Around 30 people working on this game since april 2018…probably 3 more years to finish this, maybe.
Funniest part is that they pushed beta date till next month and the sky is already falling on their steam forums. Autistic manchildren didn’t get their candy, better riot. Always the same shit everywhere.
Oh no, what they will do without their zero dollars?

glad i did not buy this game. ALmost bit the bullet but I heard they dont have paladins so good call there . Sad but this game had too much potential but will be put to waste eventually . RIP!

lol at everyone crying because the game is being pushed back.

I fire the game up and play every now and again. If they can finish is and get a full release out there, cool. If not, I got a crapload more enjoyment out of it than I did on board and video games I backed on kickstarter that failed to deliver, or delivered utter shite

I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m most certainly not crying.
I knew back in March when they promised a working beta by end of September, that they wouldn’t actually follow through.

If they never release the game it won’t even bother me. I’m actually glad they scratched everything they had, as the Game available right now is garbage.
But if you know you are going to rebuild everything you had after 2 years of early access, why would you promise a working Beta in only 6 months.
People who backed the game have every right to be upset with the developer’s lack of communication and lack of added content in 2 and a half years.

I have high expectations for this game.
Yes it takes more time than planned because the devs have redone the game : new assets, items, character models, environment and they added multiplayer.

The engine allows beautiful FX, lightning effets (fire balls and spell effects).
Now they need to make all the content, fixing bugs, balancing so it may take another year but I expect to be playing the “final” beta this year.

Yes everything is remade so we will see next month how it has improved.

I tried the game 1.5 years ago, it crushed every 15 minutes and lacked any sort of gameplay. The updates stopped for long time, so i trough the project is dead.
I think its some sort of No Man Sky?

Seems more like Star Citizenish, big promises but not really much delivered so far.

I bought it when desperate for ARPG after burning out on Grim Dawn for a while, and it was pretty buggy and meh, doesn’t seem like much has changed yet the talk around it is still that its the next big thing.

Fingers crossed they can deliver, but I imagine if they deliver a finished product it will be a shadow of the announced features.

I would add that when they do communicate, we can’t believe anything they say.
They promise in january updates of the alpha every two-three months. After one update and a few months of silence, they said “no update until september, for beta update”. Not a word on the change of plan.
Then in september, they announce an update for october. Again, not a word on the new change of plan.
I don’t care for the change of plans or for the delays as it’s to improve the game. But I would have liked an aknowledgement that what they’re doing is not what they announced. Maybe a few word to show they’re sorry it didn’t go as they planned.
No, they just act like they never said anything before.
There is no value in there words.

Try joining their discord server to find out more info. I bought the game, backed it, but i’m not in the least bit upset. I have some patience, just like with grimdawn. It took grimdawn over 5 years to be released, so i’m not sweating it with wolcen.

I know i followed all grim dawn ea progress cause i bought it early ( lvl cap was 45 ) and i think there is a difference. I’ve seen substantial progress across the years, new acts, new monsters, new masteries, new items. In wolcen , and this is the reason of my doubts even before the delay announce, i’ve seen few progress but in weird directions. Housing, character customization, attack animations. Don’t you think the core of the game should be a priority over this things?

lmao and how many people are making this game compared to our very holy grim dawn? lazy devs?

on a serious note, I would love housing, character customizarion and improved attack animations in grim dawn too:p

You think those are not core features of the game, or what developers should be focusing on? HELLO.

yes, these are not core features. What would you rather have, a second act or housing ?

Wolcen always had screwed up priorities. I have not really followed its progress, backed it and then ignored it… was close to not backing because of their nonsense priorities and mess of unlockable goals (some were part of what the base game already promised to include), decided to ultimately back at a low level and wait for the finished version

I agree there have been a lot of changes and sometimes with features that are not the core of the game (housing, combo animations are fun absolutely not needed in this genre and hard to balance). You must understand that the team has been growing a lot this year and with more developer they might have change the initial plan.

However the dev communicate regularly and often on steam and on Wolcen discord you can ask all the questions you want directly to the devs.
The beta phase 1 starts October 11, in only two weeks.
Let’s be patient to judge this game.
For me the core features are skills, itemization, required character animations, monsters, randomly generated areas.
Now if you look at their last update about their work the last 6 months :

[ul]
[li]All the architecture of Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem has been remade from scratch.[/li]> [li]Environments, characters, items, creatures, animations, FX, design and art direction are all new and shiny.[/li]> [li]We now have an enhanced code, which means fixing and optimizing will be easier for us, and hotfixes will come faster for you![/li]> [/ul]

All of these features are required for the final game, even though they could have kept some architecture from the alpha. We need to verify the quality they have achieved in the next phase to see if they really have made progress or if it was just words.
