It is not. GD plays at 60 FPS (because that is the refresh rate and vsync is on)
I don’t even think the initial version that backers got had that issue, cannot verify that any more though, but from what I remember it played normal, not this laggy
EDIT: I assume it is using the on-chip graphics rather than the GPU
EDIT2: yes, when I force it to use the graphics card it is around 50 - 60 FPS
Game is buggy but its fun and it looks like it could have potential maybe a year from now we can go back and actually made a good judgment of how the game is and performs I just got to the boss after my 20th crash and will let it rest and try after a couple of updates
Much improved over the initial alpha test backers got to play, though still very early in development. Visually stunning, though animations could use improvement. The UI is extremely bare bones, which is to be expected at this point in development. Like Grim Dawn and Path of Exile, I look forward to watching this game grow from its infancy. You can’t ever have too many ARPGs to play.
so what am i looking at? the skill trees are mostly/just passives? and you pick up spell scrolls and the spells level with use? can someone give an overview over the mechanics?
Sorta, you level the spells from skill points gained when leveling
You can level power , which makes it hit harder, or utility which reduces cooldown etc
After all my positive posting on this there is one thing that is really bothering me and I think it is the final straw to me ever pledging to an unfinished game again.
When they posted the name change and the beta coming out earlier this month they stated the cost for access on Steam. Of course backers where a bit upset considering we paid double or more to back this. So then they announced that we would be getting additional things due to this.
I don’t care about additional garbage. I paid twice the price and the more I try to play the worse it gets. Each update has caused more crashing for me as well where I had very little at first and each day my saved character disappears.
I can live with all that for a very early alpha. I just can’t get over feeling somewhat screwed for supporting the game and then having them give it away for half the cost on Steam. We didn’t sign up for that in the beginning is all. <rant off>
You still got what you backed, and will get what you backed (i hope).
They needed backing to get more people hired and get things off the ground and in the air.
Now, they need more development to implement more features and add dev-power behind the continuing project, but realistically, backing has probably slowed: therefore, steam sale/early release, bringing the title to more eyes/masses of people with a reduced cost to make it more appealing to back, therefore bringing in more revenue to continue development and also speed it up by hiring more folks.
When you back a game, you are essentially DONATING money to a cause you find worthy of advancing, not buying a product or paying for a service. In exchange for being a donor, they say that you will get early access and the full game on release. Nothing was promised, to be blunt.
Your reply is a kindling flame desiring some serious oxygen but I won’t bite. What we signed up for was clear as day and what we expected was thoroughly explained to us. I do have a right to not be happy about the way it transpired. If you don’t like it that’s your issue but many of us backers were not happy with it.
Furthermore, I never got this kind of crap from Crate. One of the very few funded projects that was absolutely transparent and honest with their backers from day one. I can go on and on about several other projects that I lost money on.
I really didn’t require your nonsense from the start. I understand economics and I understand the difference between what your told your getting and then changing gears midway through.
I wasn’t in any way trying to be rude or snarky – it’s a shame you became so defensive and hostile. Really.
Crate did the same exact thing IIRC. They had a backer that wasn’t on Steam. People backed it (including me). The first play for me was really, really buggy and had terrible FPS (Just like Wolcen). I didn’t care for it, and thought “Hey I’ll wait a bit for later builds and try again.”
During that waiting time, Crate moved GD to Steam, and (again, IIRC) it was a less expensive early access price to have the ability to play the beta. Which is just exactly what Wolcen has done…added the game to Steam to gain even more support.
shrug I don’t get why you got so angry. I meant ZERO snark or rudeness. My reply was certainly not some kindling flame, not from my end.
I started playing Grim Dawn in December 2013 and never had any issues with FPS. That’s why I was sad to see how bad Wolcen played on my PC. But hey it is what it is, and I will more then likely check back when game is closer to release to see how it performs. As of right now the game was basically unplayable so I just got a refund.
First Early Access game I ever bought that was unplayable because of horrendous FPS.
Ok, so after watching some gameplay vids earlier, I couldn’t help myself but buy it today, because GD was my first EA experience and I had a blast with it, so let’s see how it will perform on PC and how good will this EA experience with Wolcen turn out…
If the game turns out to be unplayable, like everybody is saying, I won’t refund it, but I’ll wait for it to get further polished and optimized.
I am more interested on its open world and no class limitation system. Is the gameplay good?
When heard about open world and no class limitation system, Dungeon Siege come up to my mind and it isn’t half good as Grim Dawn in terms of replay value and build customization.
