Eh… I’m not really too fond of the way they made the bonuses offered by that passive skill tree…

“5% increased Strength for each enemy that is attacking you.”

“10% Strength if you are at full life.”

Not to mention some other defensive bonuses that seems to require that you manually guard with your shield… in a friggin ARPG…

System is quite similar to how Path of Exile works. It determines how you build, synergies, gear up and play style.
Makes you think out of the box for interesting builds.
And it’s all optional, you don’t have to go that path on the tree

If you DEX up, you will most likely dodge everything and stay at full health etc

I’m on the fence, as arpgs lover, while i understand this title is moving the very first steps i’m kinda not very sure about this dev team priorities.

I mean : you working on a pre alpha game with very little content, itemization (from what i’ve seen on youtube) and your first moves are character creation and housing.

Don’t get me wrong i’m not against housing or anything but maybe it was better to focus on the core before adding secondary aspects?

I guess the housing tools are going to be used later for player created public dungeons. I don’t know though, if they do it right and take their time I think the game has a lot of potential, but it’s going to be 3-4 years.

The character creation is pretty bare bones.
And the housing, from what i see will most likely use the same assets for the world map and locations.

BTW someone complained about the active shield blocking from the Guardian part of the skill tree (which is for thorns damage), but passive shield blocking and wepaon parrying is coming in the next patch according to the dev on Steam :slight_smile:

Wolcen still has pretty horrid frame rates still even after the patches that were supposed to help them, I’m only getting around 30-40fps still, I just hope they’re not going to lock the frame rates to the current settings like Bethesda did with Fallout 4 to please the console crowd.

uhm…game is still in alpha. they’re still adding features. its only normal that the game is not optimized to run at decent FPS yet. this is something too worry about once it still is the case in the later parts of beta

You can also brute force it, my i7 3930k @ 4ghz, and GTX 1070 combo gets over 60fps at maxed settings :slight_smile:

previously with an ancient GTX 570 I was getting 30-40fps on medium settings

Gibly, I know it’s only in Alpha but they did release a couple of patches that they said would greatly help the frame rate issue experienced in the Alpha, but I don’t really see any improvement from before, which makes it pretty hard to run the Alpha if you’re pc is stuttering all the time.

Also CoolColJ how do you do that? I’ve got a GTX960 but still only manage to get 30-40 FPS with it?.

aren’t they using an existing / licensed engine ? In that case I would expect less of an improvement later on compared to an own engine

using a licensed engine or not has little to do with that o.O
how you utilize the engine effects performance and that depends on how skilled a developer is or isn’t.

Well GTX 1070 is a whole lot more powerful than the 960!
It’s about the same speed as a GTX 980TI

Hell I get well over 200 fps on POE and Grim Dawn with v-sync off :stuck_out_tongue:

I suspect that Wolcen is more CPU bound. More cores and more ghz helps.
I have 6 cores at 4ghz

new patch and new character sheet, plus player chest is finally active

  • New: A Block mechanic for shields and some other items. Shields have now a chance to block a physical attack (melee, shot or physical spell) at all times, and a “Block Efficiency” parameter that represent the Damage reduction from the Blocked attack (80 Block Efficiency = you take only 20% of the Blocked Damage). Channeling with the Shield will result in a 100% Block Chance on frontal attacks. Those new values will be affected by Passive Skills and Magic Effects in the future.

edit - after checking out the new character sheet, it is even more detailed than I thought, it actually scrolls down from the pic below.

Legendaries

  • Improved: Many of the content has been splitted for better loading times and, in the future, smaller updates. It should be the last 8Gb update! We now have 68 .pak, and we plan to split the data even more.

Frankly speaking, this is the best part of the update, if you ask me.

Also, those legendary item bonuses looks pretty… bland? I mean, you get a + Strength bonus, a + Dexterity bonus, a + Power bonus, and then, a + all atributes at the same time… and lol at the axe with a + Burn Damage, followed by a Lightning Damage bonus… :rolleyes:

I really hope that those Legendary gear bonuses gets a complete overhaul when the alpha period ends.

There are only a few uniques in the game right now, but some of them are massive.
They are adding more affixes, plus mage weapons that have a dedicated left click skill, that scales off your power

I guess these are more like Rares in other games.
You have whites, blues, yellow, and orange

legendaries with a name like ”base axe” ? turns me off

In the current version of the game any item have a chance to roll as a legendary, and you have also have a chance to get an item that can only be a legendary. There are two of them right now, but they do not come with unique powers, just a unique look. I’m currently adding many new affixes for the next patch, and some of them can only roll on legendary items.
