[1.2.1.6] [Melee] HC SSF The matron's wrath - Beginner physical blade arc warlord leveling guide

  • [Melee] [1.2.1.6] The matron’s wrath (Ralfhskz)
    • Damage: Physical, internal trauma
    • Active Skills: Blade arc, blitz, war cry, overguard, ascension.

Greetings again, GD community…

If you’re new on the game and wanna a good ol’ sword n’ board gameplay, this build’s for you!

This char has a very simple gameplay: Stand your ground while you facetank and destroy almost all enemies the game throws at you.

Skill rotation is very easy: Approach your enemies with blitz, debuff them with war cry and use blade arc to rip their guts off :slightly_smiling_face:
Use overguard and/or ascension to endure dangerous situations and you’ll be fine!

Build has decent health regen, nice physical resist, good life leech and i was surprised by achieving +200K DPS sheet for a Sn’B build.

As always, i leveled this char without merits, mandates, potions or any other leveling items.

We use mostly faction gear and an epic set, the Baldir’s Regalia (but don’t worry, this is a very common drop on endgame).

The leveling:

Lvl 10 Soldier, Level 10 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

Started as soldier.

Look for a 2H melee weapon. If you didn’t dropped any, you can always use the good ol’ Hevill’s Greatsword on a house in lower crossing.

Spend points on mastery bar until you reach forcewave and tremor.
Spend one point in FW and one in tremor. After that, spend 2 points in FW and one in the mastery bar at each level up.

Lvl 10-20 Soldier, Level 20 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

After reaching rending force and internal trauma on FW skill line, start spending points on them.

Spend a point in menhir’s will and a point in blitz.

On devotions, complete the assassin’s blade and bind its proc to FW.

Lvl 20-30 Warlord, Level 30 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

After defeating warden krieg i farmed build’s main medal, the Balthazar’s Crest on Staunton Mine in arkovian foothills.

Then i headed immediately to FG DLC to farm build’s main weapon, the Sandclaw Slicer. The fastest way for getting one is killing the Korvan Titanovore.

After that i returned to burrwitch, go right to the burrwitch’s repair site and repair the bridge.
You will farm build’s shield, the Kalis’Ka’s Harvest there.

After equipping those, respec all your points from forcewave skill line in blade arc and laceration. Remember changing the proc of assassin’s mark from forcewave to blade arc.

On devotions, compete the dryad (bind the proc to blitz) and complete the tortoise.

Lvl 30-40 Warlord, Level 40 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

After finishing the DLC i returned to vanilla campaign.

Remember to farm monster totems whenever you find them.

When you reach the pine barrens area, don’t forget to farm build’s main amulet, the Mogara’s Fangs in the jagged waste.

After reaching homestead, i began farming fleshwarped mobs to get build’s ideal helm (until endgame), the Fleshwarped Casque.

After getting it, start spending points on war cry and break morale too.

Start spending points on the oathkeeper’s mastery bar!

On devotions, complete the eel, lizard, sailor’s guide and wraith.

Lvl 40-50 Warlord, Level 50 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

At this point you should be on your way to malmouth.

You can farm build’s main belt, the Ugdenbog Girdle from Carraxus Foul in ugdenbog.

If you’re already respected with the black legion faction (you should be, at this point ), you can buy one Legion Spaulders to use on shoulder armor.

Look for Galakros, the Mountain Nearby malmouth’s sewers, you’re gonna farm a good Galakros Singed Plating from him until we reach the endgame.

On devotions, spend 4 points in the tree of life to get it’s proc, then complete owl and azrakaa, the eternal sands (bind its proc to summon guardian of empyrion).

After completing all the quests from malmouth’s faction, you can do some power-shopping on hyram’s shop, i done this to get the Juggernaut blueprint and crafted one (IT HELPS A LOT). If you’re lucky enough and already dropped it’s BP before, skip the power-shopping stuff and just craft one.

Lvl 50-60 Warlord, Level 60 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

Time to start elite difficulty,

Check your resistances, upgrade gear, don’t forget activating monster totems too.

*obs: I totally forgot about Rebuke on presence of virtue’s skill line flat phys dmg and almost didn’t spent points on it. Ty @RSnoomak for reminding me! You should spend some points for a nice dmg boost!

On devotions, spend 4 points on ulzaad (bind proc to war cry) and complete Vire, the stone matron.

Lvl 60-70 Warlord, Level 70 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

Remember checking if you got honored with the factions (buy their writs if you are).

ACTIVATE MONSTER TOTEMS.

I became revered with malmouth faction on elite to buy their potions of clarity to speed things up in ultimate. Just do all their quests and some council member’s runs.

Lvl 70-80 Warlord, Level 80 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

Time to upgrade gear again and begin the ultimate difficulty.

Not much to be said, just check resistances and complete vanilla campaign and DLC’s again.

You should be rushing to get revered with all the other factions.

Lvl 80-90 Warlord, Level 90 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

Time to start the endgame farming.

Remember why i said to activate ALL MONSTER TOTEMS ? Well, our [epic set] drops often from them.

Remember you only need 3 pieces. If you drop a repeated piece, just transmute it on the inventor.

Tought on using the Elite Rhowari Grips until i get something better, but dropped this Mythical Turin’s Grips

That will work just fine until you drop the BiS hands armor for the build, the Mythical Grasp of Unchained Might.

On the boots you can use the Elite Legion Greaves or craft a Stoneplate Greaves if you already have its blueprint.
I ended up dropping a fine Mythical Earthshatter Treads.

You can buy your rings from the coven of ugdenbog faction shop.

If you didn’t dropped any other good phys based pants, you can always farm the guardian of dreeg near devil’s crossing to get a nice Dreeg-Sect Legguards.

I’m currently using the Mythical Hulking Legguards (don’t worry, that’s a very common drop too JUST KEEP FARMING MONSTER TOTEMS)

Build’s actual spec :muscle: Warlord, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

With this spec you can farm all skeleton key dungeons, finish all DLC’s and even farm SR26-27 easy and safe!

 “all right all right… i finished all that and now i’m bored of just facetanking stuff and want to clear superbosses too… Time to start another char??”

Ofc you can, but you won’t need to

I published two warlord builds some time ago (yeah, they might be outdated :cold_sweat:)

This one uses the Ardor of Octavius set (1.2.0.5) HC Octavian the Destroyer- Physical FW +AoM Warlord (no MI) - Calla, Mog Ravager

And this one uses the Targo’s Craft set (1.1.9.8) Targo Warlord.

Some video proof:

Korvaak

Theodin Marcell

Rashalga (mad queen)

Kra’vall

Ancient grove

Tomb of the heretic

Steps of torment

Bastion of chaos

Port Valbury

Sr26

Bandeira do Palmeiras?

Kkkkk

Cara, ela faz praticamente todas as conquistas básicas do HC sim.

Da pra fazer todas as dungeons e bosses normais.

Pros desafios maiores tipo superbosses eu deixei uns links no final do guia de builds com sets lendários pra warlord que conseguem fazer os maiores desafios do game, com exceção talvez apenas do crate of entertainment.

question about devotion: did you pick Howl over Throne bc of the reflection resistance? if i get titan plating could i swap those??

about relics… i got oleron’s wrath recipe:is that the endgame one? or other relics are better

Yeah, you can totally swap the owl for throne if you have another source of reflected DR.

About the relic, you can surely use another physical related here (I like juggernaut for its nice bonuses and helping a lot with the survivability issue on HC)

videos has no sound?

Whoops my bad :expressionless::expressionless:

so the build dmg is capped outside celestials? got both the Pummeler and the Octavius shield. is better to swap to that setup of CDR Forcewave and Aegis of Menhir. I also already got the Serenity Relic

Im thinking of going Targo instead bc i keep the balde arc playstile (Already got the hammer)

Nice! If you can, give us some feedback about fighting celestials with this build on the actual patch! ty

im level 95 so the idea is finish the game and beat the malmouth dlc. after that i would farm for the Targo set and better attachments to the gear. Then try celestial if i dont rip in the process =)

News about “endgame”. Beat Elite Mogdrogen while using Elixir of the Ancients and Stormshroud Ointment (before they could ran out). I have to kite if he cast the Sunder cloud but still killed him with 212k tooltip dps (whitout any buff or Ulzaad), 2800 OA and 2700 Da. Ultimate could be doable but would need more DA to not get crit. But still is facetankeable when Overguard and Warcry are up on him.

Cant upload grim dawn tools bc character was made on custom game mod to do it on ssf and the page tells me that is a modded character =(
Warlord, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator same affixes (copying this realiced that i didnt use a ton of augments)

FYI You should be able to toggle it to non-modded with GDStash. Uncheck Mod flag of this character after you load them, import to Grim Tools and then check Mod flag back again in GDStash.

More news. Still couldnt find Targo’s set but build kick ass on SR. SR20 reached and it can facetank most nemesis and pull 2 o 3 bosses if Sunder isnt on the mix. Iron Maiden can be a b*** if you dont rush her bc Sunder is dangerous even with 3k armor and 38% phys res. Rn working on a Serenity Relic and on farming SR for Targo’s. Build is “inmortal” when Overguard is up and Targo’s buff that.

Thank you for this, & all your other, very nice guides. You didn’t suggest a faction for Forgotten Gods. I guess it doesn’t matter?

Hey there Ty ty :pray::saluting_face:

Well, about the FG factions, feel free to choose any of them, you won’t use any of their items and in the end will become revered with them all
