Grim Misadventure #184 - Unusually Itemized

In regards to awakening Epic items, will awakening such actually alter the stats that are already on the item, or will they stay the same after awakening? Just curious about that now.

You can see the differences in the opening post.

The stats will change for sure. The way stats on items in GD are generated from a given random seed (the stats are not independent of each other) ensures that there’s no way for an item to keep i.e. max Phys res roll, unless you’re lucky, even if the seed stays the same. Or if an awaken item gets just a skill modifier and no new stats but it’s not the case in the OP.

You turned my “let’s have more build-defining items before level 94” into “meme builds playable from level 1 to 100”. That’s a bit uncanny.

I think supporting this with level 50 non-mythical items isn’t unrealistic. It’s important to have a few items with high global conversion values / 100% conversion to a single skill. That way, you don’t have to gear up and select constellations for your character that will become completely irrelevant once THE key item is unlocked. “Play something you don’t want for 20 hours” isn’t peak fun.

I haven’t been this excited for a patch in a long time! Wow~💕

I would’t be surprised if Zantai enlisted two other devs (Medierra and Grava, perhaps?) to pose with him in one of the transformed forms…

At this point I tend to scour most of Zantais teasers for even more hidden hints, and this is what comes to mind (as them being just regular pets is too obvious)

I think it would be a waste of time, they have better things to work on now.

I have mixed feelings on the matter. On one hand, I feel that MIs fill the role of providing interesting skill customization throughout the leveling process. On the other, I feel that games that do have defining items really early on lose a bit of the charm and excitement of getting to max level, for me anyway. When you get that BiS drop at level 20, and all you have to look forward to for the next 80 levels in that slot is getting lucky and finding a version with bigger numbers (or nothing at all because a higher level version does not exist), I find that deflating.

That’s why my philosophy has been to offer a sampling while leveling, and open the flood gates of possibility when you reach the endgame, when the rush of leveling up is running dry. I get that’s not for everyone though.

I agree on this. I felt it on my pure Shaman, once I finished unlocking all the constellations the only thing I had to look forward was better gear with more procs, but nothing build-changing. And then I just started another character…
While on my Blademaster, I aim for the Legendary Belgothian set for my auto-attack, but in the meantime I experiment around Cadence, which is proving to be fun.
Since you can reset all your skills, constellations and stats quite easily, rather than “going for my end-game constellations and build from the get-go”, I found it better to try various builds during the level up process before reaching what you where aiming for at character creation.
Welp, only my humble opinion anyway ^^

this is a thing i really appreciate with having empowered and mythical versions of pieces of gear. you get a taste of a cool item while leveling and then as you hit the endgame you can find greatly improved version of them that offer a way more interesting set of improvements than just better stat rolls

I feel you. My first char was a pierce blademaster en got a shit ton devotions maxed because of changing it so often :joy:

I was about to say, we already have quite a few items that do have significant alterations to skills which are available at earlier levels. Sometimes there are specific bonuses that make it so much better at lvl 94+, but I think that’s mostly fair. These are the rare items that allow you to do something that nobody else can (sort of). I think we have a good balance at the moment. Is it 2025 yet? :axe: :bear: :shield:

Almost 2 years Crate has been shouting FoA releases in 2024 off a mountain top for the whole world to hear, and now your going to sugar coat this thing like nobody cares it’s delayed.

The GD engine is in the wake of nearly 4 next-gens of gaming. It is so archaic, it does damage to newer systems by overloading only a single CPU core and burning a hole through your motherboard. FoA better be good… just sayin’

What do you mean 2 years? Fangz was only announced early this year.

Also. They always said it would come late 2025 OR early 2025.

Pretty sure it was announced November 2022.

No, announcement was made on 29th August 2023.

You are quite wrong with the timings, there they showed you when the third expansion was announced. Regarding the release date, they always said that

Yeah. Near 2024 I guess. Anyway, no way it was announced 2 years ago. And what I said stands. Z said it was going to be late 2024 or early 2025.

@Zantai
There are a huge number of unique items in the game now. I have played almost 2000 hours and I still have not received many of them. With the new addition, there will be even more. Tell me, are there any plans to somehow improve the process of finding the desired item. I would suggest adding an altar of desires, which is filled with points for certain activities (defeating monsters of a certain action) with subsequent redemption of the item.

You write silly things on some issues. Crate said that the expansion will be released at the end of the year or the beginning of 2025, but in the meantime the plans have changed and they want to add more content to the game, and thus the work time will increase. I agree that the game should work better, but other than that, in my opinion, there is nothing to fault them.
