Messing Around - Build's I'm Working On

/ahem

Due to an insomnia induced derp of mine I’m banned from the discord for awhile, and so need somewhere to dump ideas, test vids etc etc.

Anyhow, for the last 2 weeks I’ve been tinkering with my old The Vigil’s Bane Vit Aegis of Menhir Voidsoul Sentinel and it’s been driving me spare trying to work it out and maintain the vitality theme of it. While also keeping the performance good enough.

Because damn did the spamulet get hit with the nerf hammer bad. Good news, Doom Bolt massively increases clear speed, bad news, it’s still slower unless the vit conversion is reduced. And I’m not going to take that :stuck_out_tongue:

So after much screwing around, SR running and a stream of curses, here’s the current state:

I noticed in earlier tests, shifting from Possession to Path of the Three meant I could throw AoM far more regularly, but the reduction in tankiness was frankly not worth it. Though changing the medal to the basilisk one did help.

Then today I took into account the recent Top 20 build thread’s meta findings about crits, and went “what if I took Judgement for DA shred?”. And lo, taking 10 points out of Occultist and some other points and adding them to Judgement + Crushing Verdict worked. Boss kill time is about a 1/3 faster 1 on 1, as AoM is cast more regularly and DM as well, but now Crits are far, far more often, even with Ascension on cool down. Which means the issues with tankiness making 1vs4 boss fights less possible is now a non issue.

Ended up going for 12/12 in Resilience too for added tankiness and that does help significantly. But still, this build is now far more reliant on staying mobile than previously. Probably going to fair worse in SR34-35 too, but it’s clear time in those were already increased by 1min+

Also tried pure AoM with Judgement, it was very sad XD Going with Myth. Riftwarped Gloves can help though, but then Chariot has to be dropped to take Blade of Solael and it becomes a bit too squishy as a result. Along with less health and of course breaking the AoM vitality aim of this build.

But yeah, stashes are full of loot, burnt through over a hundred waystones testing things out and I still need to spin up a clone for Ravager of Flesh testing :upside_down_face:

Least my Lightning AoM spammer is goods now, and with practice + the right pots I can hopefully get the Rav kill time down to 1 minute.

Oh bollocks, another build calls to me, Iä! Iä!

A DEE retal senti with Fevered Rage for added “spice”. May yet change the belt etc, but this should in theory do good enough.

Imo

  • crafted gloves with casting speed, i.e.
    image
or “Of Rapid Reflexes” or sth like that

  • Judgment is totally not worth using over Aegis as a second skill, Aegis is just too strong

  • Devo looks ok but don’t expect Eye of the Guardian to do anything for you in a build like this, either for sustain or DPS, just finish Boar maybe

I did consider those gloves, but boosting Path of the Three is usually a good idea in order to ensure all fire retal is converted.

Anyhow, that’s easy to test :stuck_out_tongue:

As for Eye of the Guardian, it procs very strongly off Bloody Pox and has built in sustain, so I view it as very useful to have, while Boar’s harder to get sadly. And as for Judgement, build needs all the Crit chances it can get and so the DA shred on CV is too good to pass up. Especially with how crits are now far more important.

Not that I wont test out AoM mind you, because it’s an easy swap.

Anyhow, also messing around with Acid RoS set to spam:

Still feels worse than Pierce sadly, but that’s the problem with Acid RoS not having much support compared to Ice, Pierce and Bleed.

So after 30+ SR30-31 attempts, found out this was the best devotion path etc:

Turns out Anvil provides very significant sustain, far more than Boar etc does, but it’s still pretty weak in the face of Fevered Rage due to lack of armour etc. Maybe Scales is a better thing to grab, simply because it will provide serious sustain.

Alas, Hyrian + Targo are badly needed to provide heath.

Clear time’s pretty lacklustre too, simply because the set lacks the +skills to DEE, but it does hit like a truck and crits hard too and is pretty good again casters. Bar Zantarian which can burst it too death stupidly fast:

Since you’re already using Haunted Steel, If you want more sustain, another thing you could try is this helmet with RtA for SIgil Okaloth's Visage - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database and Sigil for more Sustain

And then Mythical Murmur's Kiss - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database belt for even more Fire → Acid than you have now and casting speed / proc.

I don’t like Scales for this, not only devo ruined but it only applies RR to single target around you I think.

There’s also another devo option of using Mark of Dreeg component for RR, dropping Manticore and getting Boar again. Not saying it’s better than what you have currently.

I have this hybrid Retal / non Retal DEE meme Sentinel, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
but again, meme, not a serious build like Sentinel of the Three, just showing maxed out DEE line on Retal :stuck_out_tongue:

I did try Mark of Dreeg, it just didn’t work that well sadly

May try again, because it’s an easy swap. Main issue is a lack of aura skills to affix everything to :upside_down_face: As it turns out Affliction does quite a bit of damage…

Edit - Also, Mark of the Myrmidon actually helps a lot more too. Tried it out last night and the results were rather good. But due to not having a coffee yesterday, I was a total gubby who kept dying…

Edit 2 - okay, tried this out:

I think the best way might actually be to take both Guardian’s Eye And Anvil for maximum sustain. It’s just possible too. Hmmmn.

And here’s the 1.0 version, now namethed as the “Eyes of Vengeance”:

Still can’t face tank Zantarin, but that’s because Zantai’s a troll and made is ingame avatar OP :stuck_out_tongue: But, I carved a minute off the average run time for this and it’s now more consistently around 6 minutes and can potentially close to 5 or just under if the stars align. And all it took was taking Mark of the Myrmidon on the shield.

Also, in testing, Guardian’s Eye just didn’t cut the mustard, but interestingly Ghoul helped a lot in comparison, far more than Chariot. Tis a shame really, GE used to be very solid for sustain. Not helped though by how nerfed Sentinel of the Three has wound up.

Oh and the main issue is energy sustain, because frankly this set needs some badly, along with total speed etc.

Right, went to check my old Scion of Perdition build and lo, the spamulet nerfs murder my poor girl badly. As in hello 7 minute+ SR runs for a build that could push 5 without fully speccing into retaliation devotions.

So I’ve been messing around with it and this is the result:

Still slower than I’d like, but it’s okay and I even managed to stuff 2 Bladed Plates on to it on top :3

Less capable compared to 1.2.1.3 due to all the nerfs though and I’ve died a lot to taking on too many bosses. But it’s more capable than the Eyes of Vengeance as the Amnesty set provides better bonuses. Namely health, armour, shield stats and physical to acid conversion.

And in testing, Anvil is also, once again, baldy needed for sustain. There’s no escaping it now for the majority of retaliation builds  Which is kinda annoying given it has no retal bonuses on it’s nodes. It also procs more because Amnesty has shield bonuses Sentinel of the Three doth not has.

Anyhow, I should go cook up a Pierce AoM spam Paladin to see just how dire the spamulet really is. I suspect it’s rather dismal :stuck_out_tongue:

It might be a bit better in some other builds. But yes, it was nerfed a few times. You don’t convert this Chaos damage to Acid on it. Your weapon damage is very low. Hard to proc on single target. There’s really not much damage on it to leech from and the %ADCTH is low and this build is far from optimal to utilize it. Hard to imagine its healing being a significant addition to your DEE Healing and BoD / Health potion.

Twin Fangs is way easier to convert and use properly, 2 projectiles with more ADCTH, range and it’s still not that great.

New theorycrafted build is this:

Wanting to check out how “good” the spamulet for AoM is…

you could just ask lee

edit. can’t find the comment, but i believe his exact words were something along the lines of “over nerfed for retal”

Won’t be any good if your build has 2000% to Pierce damage and measely 700 in cunning.

Even my ancient spec has like ~1000% more damage, lol

EDIT: @The_Mess how did you manage 168% casting speed as well, holy shit, man, trully living up to your nickname.

time to update with 4k oa and Divine Mandate + 2k cunning and 3k pierce dmg :scorv:

It is already close to those values actually, well much closer than what The_Mess has theorycrafted for sure.

I have Acid and I think Eardianm maybe had an even different damage type. Tested it a long time ago but I did multiple improvements and there have also been changes to conduit and Aegis so dunno.

I think it was a bit squishy against Ravager, Meat Shield should help with it now and ok for me in SR (athough I didn’t do very aggressive and proper testing). May do a Cunning Dump if I can survive it since I have nearly 100% Crit on this Aegis. One thing that annoyed me greatly, especially against Ravager, was the same icon for Behemoth and Abomination proc. If it’s not changed, I think I’ll mod them to be different.

True, but yeah, I was really tired yesterday so I didn’t consider everything needed lawl…

Was just messing around as per usual looking at possibilities. Anyhow, I’ll recast things laters, because I need to do groceries today already, been hit with a tsunami of night sweats thanks to the sub tropical low that hit Canterbury.

“Fixed it”:

May yet go with a Ravager helm, but cast speed is now 200%, bunch of more pierce damage and no stinking double rares :stuck_out_tongue: And I really, really need a coffee already, but ADHD is going to ADHD and drag me off sideways. Right, brain pills, coffee, etc, etc…

Looks so much better, good job. Other than heavy helmet that your 727 Physique Paladin is probably gonna be wearing with the power of telekinesis aka D2 Warlock. :scorv:
