Unlike D2 when immune mobs is nearly invincible, in GD there are plenty of debuffs to reduce their natural resistances, so dmg type is not a problem. If you like ranger, Inquisitor/Demolitionist is a perfect choice for newbie, and as time passes by and you dig deeper into the rabbit hole, there are various ranged builds.
