Returning to grim dawn

Hi guys. I’ve decided to come back to Grim dawn after having played it to death many moons ago. My favourite build then was a summoner pet build with minimal interaction using a mouse.
Ive found a build which I think is ok to try?

If there is a better or more up to date build for summoning pets can you let me know please.
I just like a build with allows my pets to do all the damage with minimal interaction from me cause i’m lazy :grinning:

Most here are up to date iirc.

thank you for that. Will try out

The Fluffy Squishy - Pet Conjurer :3

Having spent 650 hours in the game years ago, should’nt take me long to get back into it!

Either mine or Maya’s can satisfy what you’re looking for.

I’ll just throw in here, if you’re going the lazy route then start on Normal instead of Veteran, which is quite punishing on pets now at least until around act 4 when you can target better gear for them.

You can always toggle it on later if things get too easy.

Cheers for that. Started on normal. Having a blast ATM with familiar and hellhound while running around. Shame I can’t give my new char some money. Got mains with millions lol. I could farm some items on one of my main I suppose. Then give them to my new char to sell? I got level 80 pet summoners but just want to build a new summoner

You can transfer money in FG Conclave of the Three. Right next to shared stash is a guy that buys and sells iron bars that can be placed in transfer stash for other characters.

Have to get to that content with another character though to change it back to bits with that NPC.

Seems a bit silly, not being able for new chars to use any vendor to sell the iron bars. Would be handy to have some money at the start to buy some items which will speed up the levelling process a bit

agree, always found it weird that selling it is locked to Tony Starkthe Ironman,
more so because other quest items can still be sold freely at vendors (slith marks, kalis ka tooth/ie the game is capable of setting a price on these), making it all the more deliberate this is then an actual hand in item/“quest” item

Great choice on the Fluffy Squishy build.

My favorite part: 2/3 of resist reduction is automated by the Wind Devils and the Familiar proccing a devotion.

The remaining 1/3 is coming from Curse of Frailty which can be cast on rares/bosses.

It’s so great not to have to press 2-3 buttons all the time just to keep resist reduction topped up.

What lvl is your character now?
I’m lvl 23 atm and just picking up gear that got +skills to pets as well as pet bonuses like damage and health.
The guide doesn’t say what gear specifically I should be looking out for as I level.
The end game build has Maya at lvl 100 with fantastic gear but I need to know, as I go through the levels, what gear(sets) I should be prioritising.
As you were leveling what did you prioritise gearwise?
It would be nice in the guide if every 20 levels or so, it shows the gear on the char, to show what to farm for.

Dunno all of Maya’s scripture,
but quoting from my own Ritualist:

Usually you would be level 30-40 by then.
Most of those should also work for Conjurer. The Hellhound has 3 extra green items in Halion’s Crest, Fleshwarped Archive and Chosen Visage.

First off, I would strongly recommend that you read Maya’s Carnival Guide to Pets (linked above by Medea).

That’s the advice I do my best to follow

That is - your character resists + survivability first, then pet resists + pet damage.

Of course, I am leveling this guy in hardcore mode, so that is extra important.
I got reckless with a character at around level 25-30, and died in a blink of an eye.

If you’re in regular mode, then it’s not nearly as critical.

Now I am leveling a new one, still in hardcore.

He’s level 59 now, and just a few minutes ago I finally took the time to hunt around for the correct augments and components (from factions and from my stash+blacksmith) to try and max out most of my resistances.

As for gear while leveling:
You are on the right track with picking up +pet skills + pet buffs stuff, and of course try to find balance in your own resists so you’re not dying. (ideally items with +pets and +character resists)

Overall though, you’ll likely level with a mix of Monster Infrequents and Faction gear.

For faction gear:
At level 35 (and then 70) you can pick up a good chest + shoulders from Rovers in Old Arkovia. At level 40 they also have an amulet.

At level 65, you get a bunch of faction gear options opening up with +pets skills: mostly from the Forgotten Gods factions.

Around level 90-94, you get some options from Ugdenbog Coven, as well as a few more options from the other factions.

On the Monster Infrequents side, there’s also options all over, these can be “refreshed” every 20-30 levels if you so desire.
At the lower levels, if you happen to get one, don’t worry much about the additional affixes, just roll with it.
As you get higher up in levels, it’s not the worst option to do a couple-three runs at the boss (if it’s a boss MI drop) to get yourself a nice prefix or suffix with even more +pets.

For specific examples (ones I’m currently using):
Ascendant Cowl helmet
Bloodsworn Signet rings
Bloodsworn Codex offhand
Zaria’s pendant
Wendig Gaze medal
Rhowari chest + shoulders (faction items)
And Savage relic (you can craft a Hysteria relic at lvl25 which you can use to then craft Savage).

For the Zaria’s pendant, I killed her a few times to get me a +pets suffix (of the Wilds).

For the other MI’s, they drop quite often, so I naturally got half of them with a +pets prefix or suffix (giving me more +Familiar/hound/briarthorn/support skills)

Edit: What HonorabruSudoku wrote also works  He even got item links in and all.
Overall, the Grim Dawn item database is pretty great for looking up faction gear, monster infrequents, and looking for those augments/components when you try to figure out how to fix your resists

Edit 2: Oh, and almost forgot, Salazar’s Sovereign Blade is a nice dagger to use as well.
I don’t even use it’s temporary summon. I got one with “of bestial rage”, so it gives me +2 to Familiar skill, +2 Hellhound skill, and the suffix gives +3 Briarthorn skill.

Thank you both guys. I know now what i’m looking for. Obviously i need to get my resists up ready for elite etc. Cheers for the faction gear guides. Will definitely keep an eye out for revelant gear as I level.
I’m having a blast at the moment running around cursing all the mobs and letting my familiar+hellound+briarthorn do all the damage.

I have access to Hysteria and Savage relic. Which relic is better for me? I’m level 36 atm

what do you mean by access? Just try both and see for yourself.

Access? The ability to use something. In this case I can use either hysteria or savage. All I wanted to know was in the long run, is it worth making a savage relic, and sacrificing the hysteria relic, or should I keep the hysteria relic and use it for the later levels.

I went from Hysteria, to Savage, to now Bysmiel’s Domination. Each one is used as a crafting ingredient of the “upgrade”.
Your end goal is Mogdrogen’s Ardor, and it very conveniently uses Bysmiel’s Domination in the craft.

I didn’t feel much difference in playing with the Crab vs Stormhound. The Savage relic brings with it a few additional useful pet stats.

I was a bit concerned when moving up to Bysmiel’s Domination, as I’d be losing a pet.
But it actually IS an upgrade, and feels smoother to play with it, since my main pets go into Frenzy mode a lot of the time, so they clear a bit faster overall.

Mogdrogen’s Ardor seems to be more of a defensive relic (compared to Bysmiel’s Domination), but that +1 to all skills is very appealing (and that brings back some damage), plus it’s not like it lacks in other bonuses.

And as I understand it, once you get all the endgame legendaries in place, the build isn’t lacking for damage.

Well, that was a long-winded way of saying that: YES, do upgrade from Hysteria to Savage, then to Bysmiel’s Domination

Edit: Oh, and without first noticing it, I somehow ended up on the old version of grimtools database (1.9.1.8), and as I was looking at the crafting requirements of the relics, I was like “What the heck, each relic needs several other relicst to craft, this will take forever!”. But then I noticed that the relic bonuses are different from what I rememeber in-game, and then I realized my mistake.

I had totally forgotten the pain in the ass that it was to craft an endgame relic in the past. So many resources, so many things to craft.

It’s such a simpler/cheaper/smoother process these days. Very thankful for that to the devs!

You mean you have learned their blueprints? Or do you already have them crafted? That is a difference

I have learnt the blueprints from playing the game years ago. I can craft either having all components.
