The infinite scrolling feature SUCKS!

Also, definitely liking the recovery of space. I hope the same can be done to the subforums by getting rid of the sidebar. It is already on the main page anyway.

Also, to be honest I wouldn’t mind taking a bit of space from the background image too. There is like 3 inches of space on either side.

Yay, complaining made a difference! I appreciate how interactive the team is with the users, good stuff.

Just use google wayback machine to view the old website before they broke everything

Go ahead and have fun over there by yourself.

That’s the thing, not every feature has to be mobile friendly. I hope you take into account the PC users.

More horror for your viewing pleasure

There’s another thing that is confusing as fuck.

Summary

Apparently I can edit someone’s message to edit my message. However it sounds.

Well, what’s missing for me is “search this thread”. The search function doesn’t seem to go low enough or have an option for this. For example searching for Zantai’s posts here callls up a whole load of them from within the Ideas and Feedback topic, but no way to actually find his posts in this thread easily.

On the old forum I’d just hit the Search this Thread button, go advanced search and enter Zantai for who I wanted to search for posts for in that thread and up they’d pop.

This new forum is a bit confusing atm, but overall I like it so far, it´s a HUGE improvement over the ancient one. Thank you for finally geting rid of it!

Pretty ! But yeah a little hard , simplicity turn complicated ^^

Check it, medea (it’s crazy ez and it took me less than a minute of fiddling to figure this out):

Search this topic is Search this thread.

How to use:

  1. Open the search.
  2. Make sure Search this topic is ticked
  3. Start typing.
  4. Want to search a term targeted at a specfic user in the thread?
    • Easy. Type Your_Search_Word hit spacebar then type @Zantai.
    • You can also type Your_Search_Word then hit Enter to go into Advanced Search,
where you can configure all the options you could ask for.

  1. Furthermore, typing in just @Zantai with Search this topic enabled will list EVERY post made by Zantai in the thread.

Thanks powbam.

More intuitive says big Z. Yeah - right.

+1 The new forum is far more readable and enjoyable to look at for me. And I only used it on PC.

I, too, am not a Discourse fan…

Quit the Vermintide forums after a few weeks of trying to navigate the bloody things because of Discourse. When post counts scale through the dozens into the hundreds, it becomes virtually impossible to find what you’re looking for. Discourse is as it is described on its website:

Discourse: About
  • Discourse is a from-scratch reboot, an attempt to reimagine what a modern Internet discussion forum should be today , in a world of ubiquitous smartphones, tablets, Facebook, and Twitter.

https://www.discourse.org/about

Discourse is great for discussions, meaning it’s fantastic for sequential back-and-forth conversations about one subject in particular. This means things like bug reports, devblogs, etc.; anywhere where a singular topic is needed and…well…discussed. It’s also great for this thread, for instance!

But video games have more than one topic to them. One suggestion to nerf or buff something may involve dozens of other points of reference throughout the game, be they community-made builds or game mechanics or what have you. This information is scattered, and the official gameguide woefully insufficient to answer all such questions a player may have. Superficially understanding what forms of RR stack is one thing, for instance, but understanding why they stack the way they do is another, and that info is only found buried in the bowels of past discussions. Such is the issue with which the Vermintide forums found their great failing. It is with this issue that the EVE forums are struggling, such that their forum activity is far from what it used to be…

I suspect I won’t be using this forum much anymore, except as necessary for reporting bugs and whatnot. I imagine activity as a whole will be liable to decrease, as it has time and time again for games which have swapped to Discourse. Shame; I was so close to hitting 10k posts too. :stuck_out_tongue:

It seems like the Discourse devs really love scrolling

As much as I like the new forum features for replying, composing posts etc, navigating the forums is needlessly complicated, especially when not logged in.

  • For example the header buttons on https://forums.crateentertainment.com/c/grimdawn
When you click on either “Latest”, “New” or “Unread”, it does not take you to latest, new or unread posts section. Instead you have to scroll down all the way past the subforums to see what you want. This feature only seems to work correctly from within the subforums.

  • “Suggested Topics” doesn’t seem to suggest related topics, just random stuff that sometimes was posted years ago. I think this feature could be removed altogether, imo it’s useless clutter that just leads to more scrolling.

  • When you are in a subforum with a lot of topics and you scroll down, you gotta scroll up again to get back to the top, there is no other way. Subforums are missing a navigation tool.

  • Yesterday the header navigation buttons in topics had colored backgrounds, today they don’t and it’s hard to recognize them as actual buttons unless you know what’s what.

There’s other stuff I could complain about but nothing I can’t get used to. I will wait and see what will be done about the issues I and others brought up. In the meantime I will try to adjust, it’s better to have a slightly inconvenient forum than one that’s hacked all the time.

I agree, I very much prefer pagination. Whoever invented infinite scroll needs to die a slow and painful death, just as slow and painful as using infinite scroll. Can we please have at least an option for pagination if discourse even supports it? I can get used to everything else, but not lack of pagination.

  • Don’t feel like scrolling while reading thru a thread?

    • Hit j or k on your keyboard. This will highlight the
post you are currently looking at with a thin, orange
vertical border at the left of the post.
  • Now, just keep hitting j or k to navigate post to post,
    up or down.

  • Or - grab that slide bar if you want to move further along,
    quickly.

  • You have every means available to not have to scroll
    if you don’t want to.

Dying a painful death won’t do it unless we can turn the perpetrators into undead thralls who can then be commanded to undo their transgressions. FOR ALL ETERNITY!!!1!one…

I mean, yes, please give us pagination options.

“Suggested” is just a fancy PR tool used for promoting already popular drivel, such as the way youtube does nowadays. We can do away with it I am sure.

I have to agree with that, if only because all it does is “suggest” threads from years ago with no bearing on the current thread at all. Look at what is below this thread for me:

The only requirement seems to be that the thread has to be from the same category, after that it appears completely random.
