There are several items that support Wind Devils, but they don’t do much to the skill since the aura doesn’t stack.
Cyclone Elementalist is the weakest of the 3 supported classes by a large margin because it has dmg bonuses to skills that don’t stack
Nightbringer hasn’t been used in aeons, and i don’t remember last time i saw it on Shaman
Morgo set has basically void support for its 3rd class (speaking of which, full set could get some mod to Wind Devils)
Haven’t seen the aether WD off-hand used for Shaman… ever?
Overall Wind Devils right now is a good rr source and a procer, but it’s not used as a damaging skill, safe for few Maelstorm builds that are inferior to basically any Storm Totem build.
Since Azraaka Sands now stack and are successfully used in builds with no outlier results, maybe same can be done to Wind Devils? The base node scaling could be reduced. And I don’t even think any item would need to be changed, all WD bonuses are quite modest, only Nightbringer has smth that could give a worthwhile stack of dots and actually create a powerful build on its own.
can’t they be given a second aura “under the hood”? so it has both attack and debuff, with attack being the main so dmg mods apply to it, and RR/debuffs remain unstackable?
Yep, their aura is “debuff” one so it can’t stack from multiple devils. I suppose they could get another aura, “dmg” one that can’t have RR but can stack, and have base node damage moved to it while keeping raging tempest modify debuff one, like Gnomish_Inquisition said above.
Though I’d also expect it to be “too much dmg” and getting either base node or maelstrom nerfed in damage
But I do agree that there’s little point in investing in base node because damage gain is too low to justify it and there’s no summon limit increase, which could increase maelstrom damage at least.
Burst summon mechanic was giving a bit of something to Cyclone’s Wind Devils, like you could use it to stack dot from Maelstrom (or sometimes to reposition your Wind Devils). Now that this is not on the table damage wise those Wind Devils are not doing that much it feels like.
Ouch. At first i wanted to admit my mistake but actually looking at the build: OMEGApiano that would be better off with another weapon with speeds, namely Wildblood mace, very squishy even in SR75 video and basically only combats solo enemies, which BK DW Ritualist will be better at.
Not saying anything bad about the challenge of making a nogreen build with this mace work. But yeah, Nightbringer is right now a very strange weapon with unknown purpose.
I don’t think that I have ever seen a build putting more points to the base skill than just one… Needs some big buffs… And so does Maelstrom. Only RR is usable on Wind Devils.
It would also be nice and thematic for Wind Devils to reduce physical resistance. It would open more builds.
Wind Devils’ damage not stacking is one of those archaic things this game has that doesn’t really make sense - any reasonable player without prior knowledge of the game’s “hidden” mechanics will think that the damage will come from each different Wind Devil. Think for instance new players who have only unlocked the first node and they find a well-rolled Yeti Horn: They will think the damage from their WDs have increased by 25~% when in fact that item doesn’t do anything until you put points into Maelstrom.
It’s just one of those small things that detracts from the game’s overall experience. So I would say yes, purely from a gameplay and not balancing perspective, I would rather do away with RR from Wind Devils, but I think we’re 5 years too late for that kind of rework.
Than the top 20 Avenger Archon gets absolutely way too op. It is definitely thematic but I don’t think at this stage in the game we are gonna see rr additions to the masteries.
