[Mod]Darkest Dawn Reborn

Hello Everyone!
I’ve been working for a few months on updaing an old mod called Darkest Dawn to current GD standards, and decided to share my work! The mod is very WIP, but should be playable enough up the way to 100. Don’t expect to climb SR 75 :smiley:

Important Note! Previous Darkest Dawn characters won’t work with my version! And starting from v0.4 my mod ONLY works on 1.2 game version!

Mod features:

  • 2 new masteries - Reanimator and Illusionist;
  • 18 endgame legendary sets.
  • 100 MI’s to boost mod masteries;
  • 2 belts;
  • 8 relics;
  • 15 cursed components in waist slot. These do large bonuses, but have a downside(s).

Meet the fully reworked Reanimator and Illusionist!

Reanimator is a god of life and death, suited to keep the group alive via healing skills and high health regen!
Illusionist is a master of crowd control and have a few skills to reduce enemy resistance to CC effects.

How to get new items

When you start a new character, there will be a special smith right near first Devil’s Crossing gates.

Tendo, the Replica Smith, can exchange MI (monster infrequent items) for Replica MI’s, which preserve old skill modifiers and add a new one for either Illusionist or Reanimator skills.

Simply extract DarkestDawn folder from .zip archive to the Grim Dawn/Mods folder! If the “Mods” folder does not exist in Grim Dawn directory, just create it :slight_smile:

Keep in mind, AoM and FG DLC’s are required for mod to work.

-Changed replica smith name to Tendo (a honorable mention of the original mod author), updated smith spawn mechanic (thanks to @Ceno again!) so you will no longer overspawn game with smiths. Note: previous item to spawn smith will be lost after you update the mod, you’ll need to buy it again from Devil’s Crossing faction vendor.
-Changed Bone Colossus aura visuals to be less screen bloating and made the aura range scale with ranks, starting from 3.5 meters on rank 1, up the way to 4.5 meters on 22/12.

-Gyrus Sphere of Repulsion: updated visual fx and skill icon, removed flat electrocute damage and energy absorb, slightly reduced stun retaliation, adjusted dmg absorb to be lower on early ranks and ramp up higher on ultimate ranks.
-Amygdala’s Cut: updated skill icon.
-Edge of Sanity: updated visual fx, reduced max orbiting skulls to 5, slightly increased their flight speed.
-Striat Mindblast: updated skill icon and visuals (less blinding colors now), renamed to Striat’s Vortex and removed projectile throw, now creates swirling vortex at a targeted location, duration reduced to 3s at all ranks, tick rate and damage are slightly increased to compensate loss of duration, radius is also reduced to 6.5m.
-Essence of Madness: renamed to Unbounded Storm, removed additional projectiles, increased total damage modifier to 175%, duration to 3s, added +1.5m radius and 1.5s knockdown.
-Time Stop: updated skill icon, removed fumble/impaired aim.
-Downfall: updated skill icon.
-Summon Living Horror: updated skill icon and visuals, now is a permanent pet, removed -%total speed, added fumble/impaired aim scaling.
-Wrath of the Aether: updated visuals of transmuted pet.

v0.4:
Items:
-Added 6 new endgame sets: one for Reanimator only (Bonelord’s Vestments), one for Illusionist only (Amygdala’s Legacy) and 4 assorted sets for multiple mastery combos. They can drop anywhere, if enemy is above 90lvl.
-Replica Bloodsworn Scepter: nerfed Curse of Frailty -15% chaos resistance skillmodifier to -10%.
-Replica Martin’s Crest: now also changes fx of Time Stop (lightning one).
-All custom mastery components that were applied to waist slot (e.g. Illusionis’t Glory/Reanimator’s Wrath) were reworked, now providing few positive effects (such as +%health, max movespeed cap, OA/DA) with a negative effect (like -%energy regen, -%damage) for player stats and no longer require any custom mastery. Also, the number of components were increased to 15.

Illusionist:
-Retaliating Echoes: adjusted description for transmuted version of this skill.
-Enrage: changed casting animation.
-Halo Effect: toned down sound fx to be less annoying.
-Troubled Dreams: reduced chaos damage scaling.
-Dream Eater: reduced vitality/decay damage scaling at early ranks.
-Summon Living Horror: summon limit and spawn amount is always 3 now across all ranks, reduced fumble/impaired aim scaling but increased their duration to 3s.
-Striat’s Vortex: updated skill icon to better resemble what the skill does.
-Touch of the Void: removed total speed bonus.

Reanimator:
-Conjure Rotten Mummy: updated mummy visuals and it’s slam skill visual.

v0.5:
Game:
-Added a random legendary DD set crafting to Tendo smith. Requires player level 94+ to be usable.

Items:
-Added 8 more endgame sets. As usual, they can drop from any enemy above 90lvl.
-Amygdala’s Veilslicer: increased base weapon damage to 50-82, slightly nerfed added flat chaos damage. Added granted skill - Timeless Void: reduces enemy vitality/chaos resistances.
-Amygdala’s Legacy Set: changed granted skill to Phantasmal Skulls: up to 5 skulls may orbit around player striking nearby foes with vitality and chaos damage.

Illusionist:
-Weight of the World: adjusted description to avoid contradiction with Amygdala set having a dagger as prime mastery weapon instead of 2hander. Also removed melee target radius and chance to pass through, added 15% crit damage bonus.
-Edge of Sanity: reworked, now grants some flat chaos/vitality damage and makes melee attacks splash nearby targets.
-Enrage: removed vitality damage.
-Hysteria: removed -%OA and vitality decay, reduced %fire/burn scaling, added flat vitality damage and -DA debuff.
-Striat’s Vortex: removed chance to disrupt, reduced duration to 1s, increased tick rate, now deals 2 ticks of damage per cast.
-Unbounded Storm: reduced damage multiplier to 125%.
-Veil of Darkness: increased vitality decay duration to 3s, target amount no longer scales with ranks and now defaults to 5.
-Troubled Dreams: removed %RR, added +3 target maximum.
-Dream Eater: reduced life leech scaling, now starts with 7% and goes up to 15% on ultimate rank.
-Halo Effect: reworked, now has 5s duration/cooldown, activates when you’re hit, grants %DA, maximum run speed and %healing effects, raised up sound volume.
-Mind over Matter: reworked, now a part of Amygdala’s Cut skill line, adds some retaliation and crit damage to Amygdala’s Cut, names as Retaliatory Strike.
-Devil Mind: removed total damage multiplier, added +%all damage scaling.
-Decelerate: reworked into teleport skill, does no damage though, now named as Through the Veil.
-Reckless Abandon: reworked, now debuffs enemy damage and OA when teleporting into them, renamed to Tearing Rift.
-Void Affinity: changed skill fx to previous Decelerate one.
-Vanish: increased DA scaling.
-Summon Living Horror: removed fumble/impaired aim, added -%total speed, -%slow/petrify/stun RRs.
-Time Stop: reduced cooldown to 5s, toned down slow debuff and petrify scaling.
-Downfall: removed OA debuff, added fumble/impaired aim for 5s.
-Amygdala’s Sight: removed freeze/entrapment/knockdown durations.
-Gyrus Sphere of Repulsion: reduced flat absorb scaling with early ranks.
-Illusion Daggers: reduced cooldown to 3s, adjusted drop radius, angle and height, increased explosion radius scaling.
-Dispersion: removed projectile amount and target area bonuses, now slightly increases projectile explosion area so they shotgun better.

Reanimator:
-Circle of Protection: reworked, now the summon limit is 1, cooldown is 18 seconds, duration is 8s, circle radius is doubled, %damage absorb removed, health regen and healing effects are greatly increased.
-Raise Bone Colossus: removed skill cooldown, reduced model size by around 30%, adjusted controller to make pet more responsive for surrounding enemies, added scalable pet amount, 2 by default and scales up to 3 pets on ultimate levels (from 20+ ranks), increased base attack and move speed.
–Chilling Presence: removed from base skill and now takes place of Shield Throw skillmodifier (skill points previously invested in Shield Throw are preserved and kept in Chilling Presence, no respeccing is needed), reduced -attack/cast speed debuff, removed -freeze RR, added reduced target’s damage and -slow RR.
–Chilling Strikes: now only affects base skill, removed OA debuff, added +%crit damage.
–Lord of Bones: swapped skill icons with Shield Throw, removed +DA and +all damage, added +%attack/cast speed.
-Conjure Rotten Mummy: adjusted pet controller, reduced model size by around 10%, increased delay between Desecrated Ground casts to around 4s.
-Summon Restless Wraith: reduced model size by around 20%, adjusted pet controller, reduced visual aura fx a bit, casting no longer has a super-bright red effect.
–Vampiric Blast: adjusted fx lightning colors to be less blinding, and toned down cast sound, added vitality decay scaling.
–Vampiric Curse: removed.
–Vampiric Drain: reduced tick rate to 2/s and halved life leech scaling, added small life reduction.
-Flesh Rot: reduced vitality/bleed RR and -%health regen scaling, range no longer scales with ranks and reduced to 4m, duration scaling reduced and starts off 5s now.
-Synergetic Link: reworked, now converts 100% of acid and cold damage to vitality damage.
-Chilling Death: removed frostburn damage and -DA debuff, added +2s duration and -OA debuff.
-Infestation: removed poison and vitality decay, added acid damage scaling and +3m radius.
-Exoskeletal Armor: reduced flat cold and flat health scaling, removed health regen and pierce resistance, added flat armor and OA scaling.
-Bizarre Shell: removed bleeding resistance, flat OA and %health regen, added +%armor.

v0.6:
Items:
-Added 4 more endgame sets. Hunt down 90+lvl monsters to get them! Or use a random legendary crafting at Tendo smith if you’re swimming in rare crafting mats.
-Sky Seer set: removed +1 projectile from Illusion Daggers skillmodifier, added 160 lightning damage instead.
-Replica Ulraprax’s Sting: removed +1 projectile from Illusion Daggers skillmodifier, added +3 targets chain and 90 lightning damage instead.
-Replica Ascended Diadem: splitted aether damage to Illusion Daggers into 55 aether/lightning damage, added 20% chance for 100% cooldown reduction to Illusion Daggers skillmodifier.
-Replica Night Herald: removed pierce->cold conversion from Bone Lance skillmodifier.
-Replica Bonespike: removed pierce->vitality conversion from Bone Lance skillmodifier.
-Replica Balegor’s Crusher: removed increased radius from Corrosion Wave skillmodifier.

Components:
-Aetheric Blood: removed -60% energy regen, added -60% healing effects.
-Whispering Skull: increased negative movement speed to -15%.
-Korvaak Scale: removed -60% health/energy regen, now reduces block damage by -50%.
-Dreadstone: increased negative attack/cast speed to -15%.
-Blight Crystal: removed -12% physique/cunning/spirit, added -15% total speed.
-Void Spark: removed -60% health regen, added -15% resistance to life reduction.
-Desecrated Ground: removed -50% crit damage, added -50% slow resistance.
-Eldritch Remains: removed -25% slow resistance.

Reanimator:
-Bone Lance: reworked and renamed to Rip Blood. Now fires a single tendril to enemy, spawning a Blood Orb which hovers to nearby enemy and detonates itself after 2 seconds or after reaching maximum spawned orbs.
-Eviscerate: reworked. Now adds a bleed damage, life leech and increases vitality decay damage for the tendril.
-Splinter: reworked and renamed to Crimson Flood. Now adds more burst summons/max summon limits to Blood Orb, increases vitality decay damage and %vitality damage for main tendril.
-Bone’s Marrow: reworked and renamed to Marrow Drinker. Now adds flat vitality damage, crit damage and increases bleeding damage for the tendril.
-Boiling Blood: cooldown reduction removed.
-Corrosion Wave: reworked and renamed to Corrosive Swarm, now spawns a trio of foul ravens that expand outward, cooldown increased to 3.5s. This skill rewards positioning if using a non-transmuted version, and may deal up to 600% weapon damage (6 raven hits on softcapped skill rank).

Illusionist:
-Mindfray: reduced weapon damage and flat fire scaling.
-Void Affinity: made fx colors darker.
-Halo Effect: activation chance is now always 100% at all ranks.
-Touch of the Void: now converts 30% physical->vitality damage, also added a petbonus for 45% physical->vitality and 20 flat vitality damage.
-Illusion Daggers: reworked, now fires a single dagger which chains between a few targets before returning to player.
-Shocking Arrival: reworked, now creates a dot ground below enemies hit by Illusion Dagger.
-Dispersion: reworked, now adds crit damage, bonus %aether/lightning damage and has a chance to do additional aether damage.
-Summon Living Horror: summon amount and max limit reduced to 2.

v0.6.1:
Game:
-Fixed source files not having recent updated versions.

Reanimator:
-Atonement: removed increased range modifier, since it does nothing for the skill now.

Known Issues
  • Striat’s Vortex FX can get bugged and become too dark, restarting the game usually helps. I will rework this fx in next versions.
Roadmap
  • MOAR legendary sets!;
  • more polish for skills VFX/Audio;
  • balance tweaks and adjustments for overpowered/underpowered skills.
FAQ

Q. Why make Reanimator pets player scaled?
A. I wanted to make Reanimator not-another-necromancer and decided to keep pets reliant on player stats. Sorry about that :frowning:

Q. Is itemisation final or my items may change/disappear?
A. Itemisation is a big WIP, there’s a chance the items you’ve earned will have different skillmodifiers.

Q. Can you change how X skill works?
A. I can adjust stats of a skill, but there’s very low chance i will change skill template.

Does this mod support 1.2PT?

Be aware that you cant use previous darkest dawn chars with this new mod. It breaks them. Need to create new chars for this.

Question: Why did you make the reanimator pets player based vs pet based? & anyway to talk you into making illustionist pet perma vs temp?

I felt that pet scaled reanimator will be way too similar to vanilla necro, so i made all pets player scaled instead. As for Illusionist pet, it was made intentionally a duration one, but instead of Wind Devils, you summon all of them at once! There’s an item that makes them permanent tho - Replica Fleshwarped Codex :slight_smile:

Not yet, the mod will probably break if you try using it with 1.2 PT

Edit: Ok suggestion on the skel warrior. Turn his aura down I mean visually. Perhaps make more opaque/see through. The class is playing well so far.

Edit: I silently released Augury v0.3 recently which greatly improved the spawning process of Inusat. If you hadn’t based your implementation off that, I’d recommend looking into doing so. It’s much cleaner/fixes a lot of problems!

v0.2:
-Changed replica smith name to Tendo (a honorable mention of the original mod author), updated smith spawn mechanic (thanks to Ceno again!) so you will no longer overspawn game with smiths. Note: previous item to spawn smith will be lost after you update the mod, you’ll need to buy it again from Devil’s Crossing faction vendor.
-Changed Bone Colossus aura visuals to be less screen bloating and made the aura range scale with ranks, starting from 3.5 meters on rank 1, up the way to 4.5 meters on 22/12.

Like the improvement on the aura. Went through warden with necro/rean nps works great.
Started a new char & outside dc the tendo npc is there. He does work. Is he suppose be there right away. or r we still suppose to buy the medal off the faction npc in dc? I did that for my last char. He summoned just fine. & I didnt notice any strange npcs roaming around.
Also as I always wish for more stash space.

Edit: Ok tendo is definately showing up where hes not wanted. I wasnt in dc yet, hadnt bought the medal, & I didnt summon.

Can confirm this issue. I created few test chars, went to lower crossing and Tendo smith spawned, moreso, he spawns after you teleporting to different location. Don’t know what is causing that, gotta ask Ceno for help. Thanks for report!

I just started with this mod and like what I see so far.
Could you have a look at the skill Halo Effect. It is triggering while you have 100% health, not when you are below. This means the effect triggers continuously, with the sound getting annoying after a while.

Yep, that’s intented behavior of that skill, to be basically an auto-healing. Though, i will adjust sound in next version :slight_smile:

Update v0.4 changelog:
Items:
-Added 6 new endgame sets: one for Reanimator only (Bonelord’s Vestments), one for Illusionist only (Amygdala’s Legacy) and 4 assorted sets for multiple mastery combos. They can drop anywhere, if enemy is above 90lvl.
-Replica Bloodsworn Scepter: nerfed Curse of Frailty -15% chaos resistance skillmodifier to -10%.
-Replica Martin’s Crest: now also changes fx of Time Stop (lightning one).
-All custom mastery components that were applied to waist slot (e.g. Illusionis’t Glory/Reanimator’s Wrath) were reworked, now providing few positive effects (such as +%health, max movespeed cap, OA/DA) with a negative effect (like -%energy regen, -%damage) for player stats and no longer require any custom mastery. Also, the number of components were increased to 15.

Illusionist:
-Retaliating Echoes: adjusted description for transmuted version of this skill.
-Enrage: changed casting animation.
-Halo Effect: toned down sound fx to be less annoying.
-Troubled Dreams: reduced chaos damage scaling.
-Dream Eater: reduced vitality/decay damage scaling at early ranks.
-Summon Living Horror: summon limit and spawn amount is always 3 now across all ranks, reduced fumble/impaired aim scaling but increased their duration to 3s.
-Striat’s Vortex: updated skill icon to better resemble what the skill does.
