Path of Grim Dawn

Trying to make it more like the playstyle of Path of Exile. With Mob Density increased, player speed caps removed, main attack skills cooldowns removed/reduced, PoE skills, etc. Without trying to break balance. Check the changelogs for full details.

Requirements:

Minimum recommended PC system requirements to play this Mod:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or equivalent.
  • GTX 1060 6 GB or equivalent.
  • 16 GB Ram.

Things to do for better performance:

  • GD 64 bits version.
  • Deferred Rendering enabled.
  • V-Sync and Triple Buffer disabled.
  • Windowed (Borderless).
  • “GD CPU Affinity.exe” or “[Tool] Core Switcher - Force GD to use all cores equally” (it’s on the GD forums).
  • Select Grim Dawn on your NVIDIA control panel and enable Threaded Optimization, and disable V-Sync and Triple Buffer. You should also disable these two ingame.

Mod is still under development. Expect a lot new things, changes/updates.

Grim Dawn is characterized for being slow paced when it comes to clear maps. Since I’m trying to make it more like Path of Exile which the clear speed can be really high depending on your choices, you can expect that this mod be also that way.

Any suggestions/ideas to improve the mod are welcome.

Important features to mention so you don’t miss it (check the changelogs for full details):

  • Shattered Realm: Reduced the progress bar gain rate. You can now… finally… clear 80-95% of the map before proceed to the next one.
    Removed the bad layout maps or layouts that are not meant for speed clear, like Mine Field, Treasure Traps and Malmouth Slums.

Installation:

  1. Extract PathofGrimDawn.rar (requires a data compression program, like Winrar). Move PathofGrimDawn folder to “mods” folder, where your game is installed. If you have it on steam, its location should be like this: “\steamapps\common\Grim Dawn\mods”

  2. Launch Grim Dawn. While in Main menu click Main Campaign, Custom Game, and choose the mod, then create character.

  • The amount of XP needed to level up has been slightly increased. Ultimate difficulty has the best XP gain. This is the PoE way.
  • Increased Player Rotation Speed, so you can shoot projectiles to any directions quickly, while moving. Just like PoE.
  • Replaced one loading screen with a new one.

And decreased % movement speed you get from mastery points to 50% (from 70%) if you spend 50 points on both masteries. So movement speed will rely more on what items you use, and not much in mastery points, from 1 to 50. You will still be able to get more MS passing 50 points.
  • Reduced brightness VFX from Eye of Reckoning and its alternative colors, so it won’t hurt your eyes while using it with increased character size (Headhunter buff).

  • XP gain from lvl 1 to lvl 2 is really slow, to reduce that process, after you create your new char, talk to Rook - Gate Keeper (npc in Devil’s Crossing) and click “Give me the lore note (XP).” Will give you almost half the XP needed to level up.
    It’s actually the lore note you can find inside Burrwitch Prison with slightly increased XP gain since in previous versions I increased the amount of XP needed to lvl up.

  • I picked the Shattered Realm Shrine Aura and modified it to make it a cool cosmetic character effect (similar to the Zenith Aura effect from PoE), it is now craftable at the blacksmith in Devil’s Crossing.
  • Added 14 new cosmetic Wings (made by okami29). To get them talk to Rook - Gate Keeper (npc in Devil’s Crossing) and click “Give me the wings”, once you get the items (medals) you can use the illusionist to apply the Wings you want to any medals you use.

    Eye of Reckoning: Increased area of effect aswell as visual effect.
  • Restored visual effect of PRM, its FX got updated in 1.1.4.0, looks really cool.

    Panetti’s Replicating Missile: Added AOE explosions to look like Kinetic Blast, you can get it after allocate a point to its modifier (Distortion), big thanks to okami29 for the idea and the base files to work on, much appreciated.

I added Kinetic Blast VFX to the AOE explosions. I tried to make something similar to Celestial Kinetic Blast or Celestial Herald Effect.
Number of explosions scales up with levels to a maximum of 7. “Summons #” indicates the number of explosions.

  • Changed visual effect of PRM’s projectiles (made by okami29).
  • Increased % Movement Speed to many mid and end game boots.
  • Mark of Mogdrogen (rare component): Increased % Movement Speed to 10 (from 6).
  • Increased Player Run Speed Cap Max to 500%.
  • Increased Devotion cap to 68 points.
  • Added Autopickup for Galfang’s Core (quest item).
  • Enemies:
    Increased the chance of gib fx. You need to have activated Gore in Options menu and have high critical chance or a decent amount of dmg (not sure which one procs the gib fx, it says “when overkilling”, so I think is when you got a lot of dmg) for this: You will now be able to melt enemies just like in PoE. There is definitely a better performance when killing big packs of mobs due to not loading many regular enemy death animations. You just make them disappear instantly (most of them). Of course there is still blood effects and particles.
    I also reduced dissolve time of many enemy types.

  • Now you can manually adjust Mob Density and Hero Enemy Density in game (increase or decrease), thanks to Grimmest mod. See more info about it in [MOD] Grimmest FG 1.0

Normal enemies and Hero enemy density are still the same (from my modification), if you wanna adjust density (increase/decrease or switch off grimmest settings) you will have to spawn and talk to Zeke (npc) by using Plutonium Nyborg, it’s in your inventory.

  • Added Autopickup (from Quickloot mod) for materials, consumables, scraps, dynamites. Not for components (I don’t like filling my inventory with those).

Known issues with autopickup: It will always pick up one item (quantity). For example if you have 50 scraps and you drop them all on the ground, it will automatically be placed in your inventory but only 1 and the rest will be deleted. So be careful.

  • Removed Soulbound from Augments: Now can be placed in stash.
  • Skills granted by items (these don’t do much damage but adds cool effects on hits):
  • Cold Burst (new skill): 5 meters AOE. A chilling surge erupts beneath your foes (it procs with % Chance on hit). These are the items that have this skill: Boots of Primordial Rage, Mythical Boots of Primordial Rage, Panetti’s Replicating Wand, Mythical Panetti’s Replicating Wand, Soulare’s Helm, Mythical Soulare’s Helm.
  • Flame Patch: 5 meters AOE with new visual effect. You ignite the very ground your foes stand upon (it procs with % Chance on hit). These are the items that have this skill: Molten Walkers (Empowered and Mythical), Gauntlets of Ignaffar (Legendary and Mythical Legendary), Alakrian’s Invoker, Alakrian’s Invoker (Empowered and Mythical), Flames of Wrath (Legendary and Mythical Legendary), Band of the Eternal Pyre (Legendary and Mythical Legendary).
    • Inquisitor (mastery):
      Word of Renewal: Increased active duration to 9.999 seconds.
    • Added 30 more points to each mastery. After 50 it will give you movement speed to a maximum of 25%.
    • Increased Player Run Speed Cap Max to 350%.

    Panetti’s Replicating Missile will draw upon the energy of the target itself to create blasts of pure arcane energies.
  • Arcanist (mastery):
    Panetti’s Replicating Missile: To get the new effect you must allocate a minimum of 2 points into Proliferation (linked passive skill). This is just a visual effect. Sadly because of the old game engine, expect fps drops when shooting to a very large pack of mobs, especially in the Shattered Realm.
  • Small fixes to some skills values.
  • Reduced level requirement for all Epic Augments that gives resistances to Armors to level 50 (down from 70) and level 70 (down from 90).
  • After completing the quest “Help Barnabas with the Water Pump” in Devil’s Crossing, you will get a low tier Rune (Emblem of the Riftstalker). May be a nice addition give Rune rewards after completing some quests, just like Path of Exile gives gem rewards after certains missions.

  • Skills cooldowns removed.

  • Reduced level requirement for all runes.

  • Removed skills cooldowns for all runes.

  • Removed “Exclusive Skill” restriction.

  • You will always get 3 skill points per level.

i have tried this place for many times that there is a enemy’s skill made me stun or something for a long time ,i don’t know how long it was, i just return to title screen.

ok, I have found the bug that is skill bug. when this skill has triggered , my character cant move any more.

That’s due to a missing animation file.
I will update soon.

  • Added few missing skill animations. This fixed the issue of your character freezing when performing the skill.

Terrific job. I’m loving the Kinetic Blast so far. But I don’t know why the level cap has to be raised up to 34? It’s a lot more the normal 16.
I’m very much looking forward to find the item to try out Herald of Ice

Balance. Level 34 does not mean the dmg is higher than the normal level 16 dmg.

I think it doesn’t make sense to be like that.
For balancing, I think we should make it weak to single target. So you’re forced to max other skills to kill boss, Spark for example. This also makes gameplay more interesting because you alternating between 2 skills.
I played Cold Magic Missile Wizard (D3 mods), the skill is extremely good at single target, and solid clearspeed. I only use it and to be honest, it starts getting boring from lvl 60, cos I haved used it the entire time.
Max cap lvl 16 KB with best clearspeed and terrible single target, in my opinion, will be better.

Hey Sir. The stash is too big (bigger than the screen), so on the left side I cannot put or pick up any items in there :frowning: My current resolution is 1080p btw.
